BBC Sport's David Ornstein reports: "Liverpool called Chelsea to enquire about Benayoun but have since dropped their interest because they are confident Dempsey will join from Fulham before the deadline."

Surprised to hear us linked to Yossi but it seems as if everyone is expecting Dempsey to sign here I dont mind either way as long as we don't pay stupid money.

Guessing that is being put out there to try and get Fulham to drop their price knowing that Dempsey is on his way out one way or the other.

If that is true it just sums up where we are at the moment....a shambles. If that is true then we let Carroll go without knowing if we could raise funds to get a replacement in. If nobody joins in the next 8 hours then it is going to be a long season.

Of course it's rubbish, we know Villa got £7m accepted why would we pay more when the player is playing hardball?

Adam is 5m by all accounts. We got 1-1.5m loan fee for Carroll so that is at least 6 of the 7m needed. Unless we really are skint as we spent 1m on 'one for the future' yesterday when we really needed 'one for this season'

Ok then you have obviously know so I will go with 4m. Add to that the Carroll loan fee plus any loan fee we got for Spearing. That would mean we are scratching round for about 2m quid.

God help us. Looks like I might need to start selling my Star wars gear and throw the funds into our begging bowl. FFS what is more important to these owners??? 2m quid or a player who might help us challenge for the top 4? They seriously need to wake the f*ck up!

No Adam, Lucas or Spearing, no recognised defensive midfielder, not sure Allen or Shelvey can do the job on long term basis. Most of all need goals, goals, goals...  I mean striker.

Watch the game more, Allen looks already accomplished playing in that role. We definitely need a goalscorer though.
