He could have but then we wouldn't have had Allen. Then when Lucas got that second injury, you would have been bitching that we were lacking a decent CDM again, like last season.

I'd definitely take Allen and Sahin over a striker.
The club fu**ed up on the final day.
Regardless of who is responsible we need a striker.

That aside we did some good business in the summer.
Our midfield is, in my opinion, stronger than last season.
We have kept our defence together, just give Agger a new contract now.

We made a c**t of ourselves with Carroll/Dempsey.
Emphasised by Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy leaving.

In all of that I'd hate to see our squad if we were limited to just bringing in a striker.
We are more than just one striker short in the squad.

Looks like Brendan will have to let Assaidi, Sterling, Shelvey, Pacheco, Yesil get some
serious game time in Europe and the Cups.

He'll definitely have to work his magic with a squad of only 16 senior outfield players (remembering Lucas' is out into the bargain).

This could be the making of some of the better young 'uns and the breaking of some of the older old 'uns, in my humble. Cometh the hour...

Lucas and Cole out. Well Lucas being the crucial one.
That leaves us with 14 fit outfield players.
In other words not enough to fill a bench.
Definitely time for the youngsters to shine.

My own view is the striker debacle may be a blessing in disguise for Brendan. I honestly don't believe signing Dempsey would have altered the result against Arsenal or would have dramatically change our fortunes for the season ahead, but the failure to sign Dempsey may just buy Brendan the time and patience from the owners (who have messed up big time) and from the supporters to allow him to get things right on the pitch.

Yes, we are short of a striker (or two!), but that is not the only problem we have at the moment. The style that Brendan is implementing just isn't working in the final third at the moment. Even TOP STRIKERS can't score if the ball is never in in the opponents half. We need to play our possession football higher up the pitch if we are to start scoring goals...... and yes even before we start worrying about our lack of strikers.

The fact that Brendan has been left out to dry is of course another thing and obviously wrong and in no way can it be counted as a blessing.

If there's a silver lining, I think s@int's nailed it.  Good post mate.

I just want to see 1 or 2 forward options on the bench be it Morgan or the new German fella we have just signed. If that means either Carra/Kelly or Shelvey/Hendo gives way so be it.

Great listening to that interview from the manager.

I loved the part where he was talking tactics and it's so clear that he is nobodies fool and every thing we moaned about after the Arsenal game he already knew and you get the feeling he will be addressing those issues.

Without him singling people out you could tell he wasn't happy with certain aspects of the game and we might see a couple of changes come the next game.

Great interview on the Anfield Wrap. That's why we'll all have more patience with this guy, because he just gets it.

What did he describe Suarez as? A slippery bugger or something?

Gonna listen to it again tomorrow.

That interview is brilliant. Anyone who watches that, be they a red or not, must come away from it thinking "my god, he's good".

Give Brendan time. He is the right man, and as long as he has time, he'll get us where we belong. By the end of next season, back in the champions league (maybe earlier), and then competing for top silverware again (league and champions league) within 5 years. Death by football.
