      Benedikt Howedes (Schalke)

Defender Benedikt Howedes is apparently interesting Liverpool, so we wanted to know more about the Schalke man.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to move early to strengthen his squad for next season, and a top quality central defender is one of his priorities.

Howedes fits the Rodgers mould of being capable of initiating attacks as well as defending, and his comfort at right back as well as in the centre of defence provides cover for Liverpool's full-backs.

Schalke aren't likely to let him go without a fight, especially as fellow European giants Real Madrid and Milan are also thought to be interested.

I know...crap source but it's not like any of our other supposed targets aside from Sigurdsson have materialized yet.

Now we're talking! A CB is not my top priority but I'd love to see Howedes in a red shirt. I've been talking about the lad for a few years now, as I usually watch a bit of Schalke 04 and he has always impressed me. Still very young, especially for a defender, but lots of qualities and potential.

Is he a better ball-player than Agger? No.
Is he more ferocious that Skrtel? No.
Do we have a good mix of youth and experience as back-up? Yes.

I see no reason to get him, unless one of the starters leave.

      This.

Central Defence is arguably our strongest position and I'd hate to see someone come in and impede Coates progression as a footballer.

Seems unlikely, aren't Bayern after him? Think they want to do a cash+Rafinha swap. Good defender though.
