Rodgers looks to defender Williams to replace City target Agger

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is ready to return to former club Swansea City to sign Wales defender Ashley Williams as Daniel Agger is being targeted by Manchester City.

Rodgers, who would also like to sign Swansea's GB Olympic star Joe Allen before the end of the transfer window, is bracing himself for Agger's departure.

The Denmark defender has reached the final two years of his contract and has given no encouragement to the club to extend his deal.

Turning blue?: Daniel Agger is a Manchester City target

He did not play in the club's Europa League tie in Belarus on Thursday night. Manchester City have seen two offers for Agger rejected but a third bid of £20million is likely to tempt owner John W Henry to sell.
Barcelona have also put Agger on a shortlist of defenders wanted at the Nou Camp but their priority is Arsenal's Alex Song.

Rodgers promised not to upset Swansea when he left them for Anfield at the end of last season, but that has not stopped his interest in a £10m deal for Allen, which he hopes to complete once the Olympic Games are over.

The former Chelsea coach is also a big fan of 28-year-old Williams, who has won 33 Wales caps and been a commanding presence in Swansea's rise from the Championship to Premier League mid-table.

On the way to Anfield: Ashley Williams may reunite with old boss Rodgers

Liverpool are under no pressure to sell Agger but will not stand in his way if City make a third, big bid.

Rogers faces a tough decision whether to include £35m record signing Andy Carroll for the club's Europa League game against Gomel at Anfield on Thursday.

West Ham have agreed a £17m package to take Carroll on loan next season ahead of a permanent move but the England striker is waiting for hometown club Newcastle United to make a move.

Liverpool will have to wait until later this year for new head of scouting and replacement David Fallows to take over. Fallows is currently on six months gardening leave from Manchester City.

That would be shocking business if true IMO.

Not so much shocked at the possibility of Agger leaving as I am that Brendan seems to be turning to his ex-players for the solution to his every problem. FFS Brendan, Swansea finished below Liverpool not above us and we underperformed!

Oh god! Please no! I will give up on life completely if Brendan becomes completely messed up in the head and thinks Ashley Williams is good enough to even clean Agger's boots!

Agree with this. Agger has made it clear he doesn't want to go to another PL club and there are no quotes in the above article or sensible suggestions that there is a grain of truth within it.

Please god no id worry if Rodgers had any scouting system if true.

If there is an ounce of truth in this it would be very worrying

If there is any truth in it, Rodgers needs to take a reality pill and look what happened to Woy's loyal servant at Anfield, Mr Konchesky.

This story is obviously complete nonsense. No need to take shots at Rodgers for a completely unsubstantiated rumor

It is to be hoped that is just more media garbage, surely if Agger was to leave then we have a ready made replacement in Coates who deserves a chance to establish himself in the first team.

Come on guys get real.Just picking up some odd rumour from any freaking website and then start reacting to it like it comes straight from the Anfield is a bit premature. These people just sit there all day trying to make stories up to sell their papers and we start ridiculing our manager and players on their word.

Until the transfer window closes, we will be linked to everyone.  Unlike other clubs we dont air our laundry in public.

Journo's just grasping at stories as they cant be arsed researching anything.

We dont read the papers in our household, in fact the only ones who do are the guinea pigs, who just tend to piss and poo all over them.  Thats all they are good for.

      Really lads.

Now anybody who doesn't know, open the link, try not to punch the image at the top of your computer screen and then refrain from giving that rag any airtime.

I can't even believe there is a thread on this.  Pure journo spec.  This is exactly the type of Rumor that Mici G was talking about when he/she (dunno) was talking about with the Higuian thing.

Come on, mate, you're better than that. I know you have concerns but don't get wound up by pure speculation like this. Aside from Allen who many people seem to regard as a decent player with big potential, there has been no suggestion that Rodgers is looking at any other Swansea players.

Borini played for Brendan, Sigurdsson played for Brendan, Allen played for Brendan, Williams played for Brendan. Notice any trend?

Was meant more as a joke than a serious comment but like most jokes there was an element of truth in it mate.
