Johnson scored, used to play for West Ham
Cole scored, used to play for West Ham
Shelvey scored (more or less) used to play for West Ham
Bottle, spirit, fight, blood guts and thunder!
I'm finding it difficult to come up with a worse performance from a referee, but that makes this win (don't forget they walked all over the chavs last week) all the sweeter.
Thought Sterling got better and better as the game went on, and thought Henderson did really well too. Downing, a bit meh, for me, Johnson, great performance and great goal. Agger, Skrtel, solid too. Reina did well, was under pressure from the Hammers’ long ball, but never found hiding. Gerrard needs to sit more central and ping it about a lot more and stop thinking he's 20, but he tracked back well and definitely worked hard for the team. Allen too worked hard and is constantly getting better after his recent slump, and that’s only going to be aided by Lucas, who also did great. Let’s get Enrique back soon, as we lost our balance when he got subbed. Tweaked his hamstring I believe. And Joe Cole, happy for him. Nice lad, and his goal was class. That’s him looking better in the shop window at least.
Giving my man of the match to Shelvey though, it's easy to forget he's only 20, but boy did he take some stick and give it back. Showed glimpses of real class in a position he’s unfamiliar with. The twisting and turning in the box comes to mind.
Those first 15 minutes, we were brilliant, but when they scored, we did seem to lose our nerve, and as a result, we also kept losing the ball. Still, we are improving, and it's steady improvement. Just think what we could do with decent funds in January.
Quick mention to all the Sly Sports 'experts'; that's how we cope without Suarez you scum loving biased amateurs!
Lastly, absolutely love the way the gaffer wears his heart on his sleeve, and the way he celebrates our goals. He doesn’t reveal too much in front of the cameras, but his expressions during the game are priceless. We’ve been in this situation a few times this season, only today things went for us, not against us. And more importantly, we never gave in.
