My boy tells me that between all the cash we had for Suarez and finishing 2nd, plus the extra we had for being live on TV almost every week, FSG stumped up a grand total of £23m
Does that factor in how much we are spending on the stadium as well?

No, but I presume John Henry's visit to the Middle East will sort that one.

So if we spent 23m net what does that average out to per player? If you look at it that way at least we didnt pay much for so many underperformers. ;D

Sorry, making jokes is the only way I get through this :(

whatever way you want to paint it we spent a sh*t load of good money on avg players where it came from isn't really an issue.

I'm not sure your lad's sums were right Rush or you've picked him up wrong - we spent what, £120m (max) and recouped £83m leaving a net spend of £37m [let's call it £40m].

Finishing 2nd [Champions League money] got us an additional £20m - £30m [call it £20m]; BT TV money was an additional £42.7m [call it £42m] and even if you ignore our usual spend and increased sponsorship that FSG are so, rightly, proud of... the grand total was closer to minus £23m not plus £23m.

Then again, we probably needed to hold some of that money back, to satisfy FFP, after our extravagant buys the season before.  ;D

      You're probs right there BBB

I don't know which is grimmer, the fact we only spent -£23m to £23m, or what we spent it on

      Pretty grim either way.

“I wouldn’t go anywhere near Anfield” – Jason Cundy tells Chelsea’s Petr Cech to avoid Liverpool

      By Ibrahim Akkas

      Posted on November 19, 2014

Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has urged Petr Cech to steer clear of Liverpool.

Cech, 32, has been at Chelsea since 2004, winning a huge number of trophies. During his time at Stamford Bridge, the towering goalkeeper has won three Premier League titles, One Champions League, One Europa League, four FA Cups and two League Cups.

Furthermore, since arriving at the club ten years ago, Cech has been the undisputed number one at Stamford Bridge. However, following the development and rise of Thibaut Courtois, the legendary goalkeeper has lost his place as Chelsea’s number one.

Cech has been linked with a number of clubs, following his demotion to the bench, but Liverpool have been linked to the Champions League winner.

Cundy has told IBTimes that Cech should keep away from Anfield: “ Liverpool are also in the market for a keeper, because Mignolet’s simply not up to it. But if I was Cech I wouldn’t go anywhere near Anfield; Suarez has gone, Gerrard is aging and the team has taken several steps backwards this season.”

Liverpool have struggled from back to front this season. At the back, Simon Mignolet has looked uncertain, while the whole back four looks vulnerable. Furthermore, going forward, the Red have struggled to score goals this term.

Nearest I could get to a rumour about us getting a goalkeeper.

Same here.  He's still got a good 6-8 years left as a world class keeper.

That would be one problem solved.

      Agreed

How old was Van Der Sar when he joined the munts and how much mileage did they get out of him? Lots

If we can get Cech on the cheap, it's a no brainer for me

Fantastic, exactly the kind of player our first team needs.

Would improve squad depth, would bring leadership and experience yet off he goes to Arsenal, another catalyst for them to grab 4th ahead of us. United get Valdes, Arsenal get Cech, we get nobody or someone somewhere he once caught something with 'potential'.

Might as well get the naming sponsor to be Google Maps, call it the Also Ran Stand, tag line "we know where we are!" (hint: may contain frustrated sarcasm)

      Mirror leading with:

Kop's £5m fee to sign their own player (of course in relation to Origi)

The crazy thing is this lad is raw, he isn't what we need right now to rescue the season. Sure him coming in for Sturridge's injuries would be nice but him coming in as the first choice striker shouldn't be where we find ourselves and again it's the least cost involved.

I thought this would be the answer we'd choose and was actually quite thankful the reports seemed to suggest it was dead in the water as this lad needs loan time to develop, he doesn't need to be shoved into the spotlight with our entire season hanging on his shoulders.

Desperate doesn't even begin to describe this, desperate and cheap does it more justice.

A few of the rags going with Petr Cech moving to Arsenal in January for £7m.

I'd be gutted if we weren't in for him (even offering up to £10m). That would be some good business by the club IMO.

      FSG have it wrapped up

Bid openly for players, upwards of £30m to £40m, let the 'world' see their (false) intentions, then when the clubs agree, offer the player £60k a week and watch how he turns us down for the bright lights of >insert favourite city here<

Quite brilliant if it wasn't so transparent

To be fair Cech is settled in London, his kids probably go to London schools etc so I'm personally nor surprised he's going to Arsenal. At his age he ain't gonna move to Liverpool however much we don't like it. James Milner is one I keep looking at wistfully if he still hasn't signed a contract at Man City. Him I'd really push the boat out for.

I wish we had taken a punt on Keylor Navas at £8m during the summer.

He is one of the most complete goalkeepers you are going to see today and he is simply sat warming the bench at Real Madrid. I'm a huge fan of his (even prior to the World Cup).

Agree with that. As boring a player Milner may seem, he is incredibly functional and gets the job done. A different player to Kuyt but shares that quality of being highly effective yet underrated.
