I'm going to add another couple of names to my "proven" list of players, the type of player which i feel we ought to be supplementing the signings of the Chilwells and the Grujic's with. Unlike many posters on here, I actually think that if Jürgen were allowed to, he might like to sign a couple of players off my list too.
Hamsik-The Slovakian fella. 28 years old, has played for Napoli for years both at home and in Europe, showed yesterday that he's a quality footballer.
Xacha-Has been excellent every game for Switzerland and is clearly very good. Arsenal have made a good purchase there.
Jao Moutinho-Another indisputeably quality footballer.
Just to be clear I'm not saying we should sign these actual players, but these types of player.
I agree with this and probably would take it a step further overall. Xhaka would have been my choice of marquee, first-team, major changing quality signing. It's unfortunate that he's signed with Arsenal already.
Moutinho is someone that I think would add a lot of quality to our team - or someone like him at least. He'd be an excellent #8 style option for us and he's basically a world-class version of Joe Allen. Recycles the ball extremely well, connects the backline to the attack, has superb vision, and knows how to properly weight passes and feed the attack while holding complete control over the pace of the game. We don't have anyone who currently does that exceedingly well, all we have are midfielders who are decent in all CM roles, but not a specialist in any.
Personally, I think we should be prioritizing both a true #6 and a true #8, while offloading some of our current options. Emre Can is a very versatile player and has the potential to be a very good one, but he is not a true #6 and anyone who thinks that he is or that he can be molded into one, I recommend that they watch Portugal play and focus on the likes of William Carvalho or Danilo Pereira, that is a true #6. Or Spain with Busquets, or Germany with Khedira, or Eric Dier on England. The #6 is someone who protects the backline at every single moment, has great positional sense, and strong discipline to hold his position, mark properly, and break down opposition attacks. They are an absolutely essential player in any team that has great aspirations and it's an easy tactical way to consistently improve your chances of victory.
I'm shocked that Klopp hasn't acknowledged or addressed this as a serious issue with our side given his Dortmund history of almost always playing two specialist players in those roles (Bender & Gundogan in 2012/13 for example) with a #10 in front of them.
