Former Leeds man tips Redsâ veteran for vacancy
Terry Yorath believes Leeds United should move to appoint Liverpool man Jamie Carragher as the new manager at Elland Road, reports the Daily Mirror.
Former Wales manager Yorath, who played for Leeds between 1967 and 1976, has claimed that the retiring defender would be the perfect replacement to the departed Neil Warnock.
âBreath of fresh airâ
Carragher has in the past expressed an interest in one day becoming a manager, but Yorath claims he is capable of walking straight into the Leeds job, without any past experience.
âI know that might raise a few eyebrows, and people might say that Leeds is too big a job for a first-time manager. But I donât see it that way,â Yorath said.
âCarragher would be a breath of fresh air â and that is exactly what is Âneeded at Elland Road.
âHeâs got no managerial experience, I accept that, but what he does possess is a fantastic pedigree and a wealth of knowledge built up over 17 years at Anfield.â
Student of the game
Despite his lack of coaching experience, Carragherâs desire to learn, and passion for the game could be enough to make him a successful manager.
âHe has learned from some of the best managers in the business, and he knows all there is to know about football,â Yorath added.
âYou only have to listen to the way he expresses his views on the game to Ârealise that. It is crystal clear that he is a keen Âstudent of the game and very knowledgeable.
âHe not only talks sense, but also speaks with a lot of enthusiasm and passion.
âThat is the kind of thing that rubs off on players and brings out the best in them. I donât know what Jamieâs plans are after he hangs up his boots, but it would be a great shame â and a loss to the game â if he didnât move into coaching.â
Carragher has made more than 700 appearances for the Reds, the only club he has played for in his career.
The defender has won nearly every trophy on offer to English club sides, including the Champions League.
However, the Premier League title is something which has evaded Liverpool for so long, and it leaves a gap in the former England internationalâs winnerâs medals display.
