Are you kidding me? Ibe is his surname.
You don't just decide I'm going to pronounce my surname differently. In any event, it doesn't matter how he wishes to pronounce it.
Ibe is a Nigerian name. It is pronounced "ebay".
I'm pretty sure he can claim it's pronounced however he wants. Are you saying if he decided to pronounce it "eye-bee" then you would go up to him and say "no, your name is Nigerian, it's pronounced 'e-bay'!"
You may well be right, but he can say he wants his name pronounced however he wants.
We had a similar situation last year with Nuri Sahin. His last name is technically pronounced with a "sh," not a "s", i.e., it should be said "shah-heen." But people called him "sah-heen", and he didn't correct them.
It's his name, he can do whatever he wants.
