                                          Mignolet

                    Toure           Sakho/Skrtel            Agger

      Johnson         Henderson      Gerrard/Lucas        Cissokho/Enrique

                                      Coutinho/Alberto

                           Suarez                     Sturridge/Moses

I think this 3 5 2 could fix a problem for us as in we lack options at right back at the moment plus it gives us the chance to play Suarez and Sturridge up front as a pair. Not only that this could also bring out the best in Aspas as he would have a strike partner to work with. Just imagine how much fun Coutinho will have ,when he returns, playing just behind this front 2. Also the back 3 could also develop Kelly, Wisdom and Llori when played as back up.
It might work especially if we play the 16 of them at the same time, hopefully the Ref will not notice. ;D

We were doing fine until the International break, why does the International breaks always happen when we are doing well results wise? Kicks us in the bollocks everytime!

Our 3 clean sheets involved Agger playing alongside two actual full backs in a flat back 4. They also involved coutinho whose only like for like is Alberto in terms of linking defence and attack. If it ain't broke ..etc. i am sure sakho will claim his place and a back 3 might be ok at some point but i am worried about making so many changes when we're having to make some anyway due to injuries

I meant to post in here yesterday kind of in response to some good stuff posted from Racer about the blend of our sqaud and what is the best way forward.

Brendan has shown a level of pragmatism and flexbility by going three at the back, and even with the four CB experiment last week, so there is hopefully room for him to be as flexible as possible and get the best of what we have in our squad until he can change it.

We are overloaded with centre backs, have good, or very good, full backs, good attacking options and a little bit limited in midfield, despite the numbers.

I was just wondering if the following may work and get the best out of both the squad and the players when they are out on the pitch.

      Mignolet

      Toure  Skrtel  Sakho

      Agger

      Johnson  Gerrard Coutinho  Moses

      Sturridge  Suarez

Obviously this is when everyone is fit and maybe it can be argued Cissokho or Enrique will be in for Moses but a very strong side.

My idea is that with the two of Lucas and Gerrard not working, and it isn't no matter who we think is better, playing better etc, this gets Agger sitting in front of the back four where he has ability on the ball and can get the ball from the 3 and get attacks moving. If we are under pressure it could become a four at the back:

      Toure  Skrtel  Agger  Sakho

      Or

      Johnson  Toure  Skrtel  Sakho

with all player comfortable defenders if we are under pressure we can sit tight and compact until we get possession back and then Agger or Glen can move up again.

With Agger sitting in the former Lucas role in front of what looks like a really solid and balanced back three, added to Glen's ability to slot at RB if needed, it gets Gerrard further up the pitch where he can influence the game alongside Coutinho. It may also lightne the load a bit on Stevie and let him get on woth trying to thread balls thorugh or join attacks from a better postion on the pitch without having to worry about getting back in to play in front of the back four.

Moses and Glen on the wings gives us the width and it also has Coutinho linking with Gerrard and the front two.

Just a thought and a way of maybe solving the midfield problem and still getting Gerrard in the side which seems to be the wish from the majority.

If he is in the side then this formation gets much better use of him in my opinion while also still possibly giving him the protection he needs in terms of fitness.

lf we just brought good attacking midfield in summer would make team much stronger, hopeful we get good midfield in january, ourbackline is good and we strong up front , we could still do with other good forward, lt midfield and other top winger were bit weak

Question is, what should our primary formation be? 352 or 4231? I don't mind 352 as and when necessary, but I wouldn't want it as our primary formation given that it'd be somewhat defensive and wouldn't allow us to play with quality wingers as fullbacks or defensive wingers would have to be the options.

                               Mignolet
                       Toure  Agger  Sakho
          Johnson                                Enrique
                            Lucas  Gerrard
                               Coutinho
                        Sturridge  Suarez

I'd still rather us play 4231 and buy a decent left winger in January, although that'd mean either playing Sturridge or Suarez out of position.

With the kind of form Toure, Sakho and Skrtel are in and with Agger to still come back, we simply have to play with 3 at the back as none of them deserve to be dropped. Also Brendan said that they had starting working on this formation at the end of last season which explains our interest in that Benfica LB. I personally see it as a good formation once we have Johnson and Cissokho back.

I don't understand why people keep saying we need wingers when we haven't played with wingers for years.

Well maybe because we haven't had much success recently and people need to put the blame somewhere.

Can I just remind everyone one more time:

We could have had Diame on a free in 2011.

      That's right.  On a free.

Kenny had him ready to go as his first summer signing.

      Just saying.

Well he doesn't seem to be doing a great job protecting the Hammers defence this season considering they are in 17th position with a negative goal difference!

And now we are playing a new 3-4-3 formation there will not be as much emphasis placed on the holding midfield position.

No use crying over spilled milk mate.

Looking at our squad i'm excited about our formation options once Coutinho, Johnson and Cissokho come back into the mix. We can play a defensive 3-4-3 formation hitting teams on the counter or play a passing build up style in a 4-2-3-1 formation like so...

                          Mignolet

             Toure        Agger      Sakho

      Johnson      Lucas   Gerrard      Cissokho

                         Coutinho

                   Sturridge       Suarez

Subs: Jones, Skrtel, Enrique, Allen, Henderson, Sterling, Moses

      Or

                     Mignolet

      Johnson   Toure    Agger   Cissokho

                Lucas    Gerrard

      Moses      Coutinho      Suarez

                   Sturridge

Subs: Jones, Skrtel, Sakho, Enrique, Allen, Henderson, Sterling

This will allow us to be flexible all season once the team is used to playing both formations and we can even switch formations during a game if it's not working against particular opposition.

If Diame was all that and a bag of chips he wouldn't be playing for West Ham at 26!

I think the only player we are really lacking presently is a quick powerful box to box midfield player in the Yaya Toure/Paulinho mold. If we had a player like this it would solidify our midfield and compensate for Stevie and Lucas's lack of pace.

But there are very few Yaya's out there!

I've said the same, when people were crying for Eriksen.
Paulinho is the signing Spurs got that we desperately need.
