      Your Favourite Memories Against...Everton
      Nov 16, 2013 04:27:49 pm
Given we've got a pointless break in the season this weekend and given that our next game is the biggest game of any season, Everton away, I thought now would be as good a chance as any to start a little idea I've had for a while.

For every opponent from here on in, I'll do a favourite memories thread for whoever our opponent that week is. They don't have to be memories you actually witnessed first hand or even in your lifetime, just something you remember from the opponent - this week Everton. So if it goes as far back as the 5-0 win in 65, Sandy Brown's classic own goal in 69, Rushie's four goals in the 5-0 win in 82, Alan Hansen's great save in the 84 League Cup final, either of the Cup finals in 86 or 89, the epic 4-4 draw in 91, Fowler sniffing the goal line in 99, Don Hutchison's last minnute winner being ruled out in 2000 or Gary Mc's last minute winner in 2001, Harry Kewell's belter in 2006, Andy Carroll's winner in the FA Cup semi final of 2012, Luis Suarez' dive in front of Moyes in 2012 or anything else that I've missed.

For me, the reaction of Gerard Houllier and Sammy Lee in particular is enough to give Gary Mc's last gasp winner in 2001 the nod as my favourite moment against Everton.

Liverpool FC - Gary Mcallister scores a super freekick again

Though I must admit, I did enjoy Sander gobbing that big eared overrated little c**t Franny Jeffers as well. (pity about the result that day)

I will never forget my first Derby in 1970. I paid a steward to get in (no ticket). I ran down the main stand and leapt the wall into the Kop. I was devastated when we went 2 down against them.  I really thought the game was over. Liverpool were just starting to rebuild while Everton were a really strong team.

Then for the first time I heard the Kop chanting "no surrender". Louder and louder.... on and on. People talk about St Etienne and the Chelsea semi final as the loudest the kop has been. I think it was louder that day. The chanting continued even as the goals went in 1-2, 2-2, and when we got the third I was in heaven. I couldn't speak the next day and was sent home from work .... perfect end to a perfect game.

Top of my head, Carroll's winner in the cup semi final.

Beating them 3-1 in March 2006 having spent most the match with 10 men after Gerrard got sent off. Still took a 2-0 lead through a Phil Neville own goal and a Luis Garcia goal. They pulled one back and then Harry Kewell scored a real beauty to make it 3-1.

My favourites would have to be
1/ When we beat them 2-1 in 1950 in the F.A.Cup semi final at Man City and Bob Paisley scored the winner.
2/When we were in the old 2nd division and beat them 4-0 at Goodison in 1955 in the 4th round of the cup.Alan A'Court and Billy Liddell tore them apart that day when nobody had given us a chance.
The 1986 and 1989 F.A.Cup Finalswhen we once again showed our supremacy. :kop5cf8koxp6:

Last year when Moyes called Suarez a diver, so Luis scores and does a diving celebration in front of Moyes and then to cap it all off Phil Neville, Moyes' captain, is booked for diving later on in the game.

Just a shame the linesman bottled it for our last minute winner or it would have been perfect.

Rush's winner in the 89 FA cup final has to be my favourite moment, even though Everton had pegged us back twice in that game, you just knew that was the winner!
Talk about a team of legends, Brucie, McMahon, Aldo, Barnes, Beardsley, Rush............. could be the greatest Reds team of all time!

So many games against the tricky blues.
Had some memorable battles every decade.
My first games v the Bitters were in the sixties.

For this topic I have picked what I to be a legacy game.

Stevies 400th appearance and our boy gets his hat trick against the enemy.

A true Liverpool performance  by our own Stevie.

Seen some crackers over the yrs but for me the stand out games are the cup finals of 86&89 especially 89 for obvious reasons,
Robbie snorting the line in 99, one of the funniest things I've ever witnessed in football ,

Gary mac's last minute wonder strike and the look on Gerard's face says it all in 01,

Gerrard's brilliant hat-trick on his 400 th appearance , special day for a special player and bloke ,
and wee Luis dive in front of Gollum I nearly choked on a gob full of pizza when he did that, f***in pissed myself laughing ,
Was surprised the f***in FA didn't ban him for simulation,

Great memories that i will take to my grave.

That would be my choice as well.

      Good shout.

It's an iconic image for me, but more for an angle they don't show in that clip, as the ball strikes the camera in the back of the goal, let alone the quality of the counter attack.

      Have to agree
      The 86 final was epic.
Everton were a good team then and had many fine players
It was a great game and molby's pass to Rush, where he half volleyed it past mimms and smashed a camera in the corner of the net excites me as much today as it did 27 years ago.

So many to choose from but the 86 and especially the 89 FA Cup Finals were both sweet.  Luis' dive in front of Gollum, Gary Macs free kick, Stevies hat trick.

So many good things happen when Liverpool the City comes together for a derby  ;)

      Well...there's been so many  ;D

The last game in front of the old Kop in 94 when we beat them 2-1 (my first game on the Kop)

Ronny Rosenthal's last minute winner in 93

      Cup finals of 86 & 89

      Gary Mac's free kick

Above all must be Rushie's 3rd goal in 86 to secure the double.

      Gary Mac's winner!
A horrible game to watch up to that point with 2 leads being lost, Robbie's penalty miss, Igor's dismissal. That winner made up for the traumatic previous 93 minutes!

A bit melancholy here, so please forgive me.

1989 FA Cup final, the pre-game singing, when Reds and Blues were one, no BS, no RS, just fans, singing as one.

When Reds, and Blues could and did sit, and sing together, without fear of reprisal.

More recently I think when Moyes kicked up all that fuss about Suarez diving which led to the dive celebration right in front of him AND then when in the same game his captain Phil Neville got booked for a blatant dive. Couldn't have planned that scenario any better.

Gerrard's hat-trick, the semi final win and pretty sure Torres tore them a new one with us a few times.

      Gerrard's belter against them too
