I think you are right there. I am not saying Can is as good yaya atm but they both have same kind of style. burst of pace and physicalty to their game. Can needs to play in the middle to progress his game and ability so i really hope that BR doesnt play him as a RB or left midfield or another position.

I just hope with this lad that we don't all get our hopes up too much too soon. In this under 21 malarkey his superior power and body strength sets him apart and he looks like a world beater. Infact he probably has all the way through the youth levels, but in our league against top midfielders he still has much to learn. I think he can become a superb player, but as with many of his Liverpool team mates (even the ones who are "sh!t" and a "total waste of money") he is still a baby. How many players of 20-21 years of age played regularly for Chelsea last season, or Man City? Even so called "believers in youth" like the Mancs and Arsenal don't play kids in central midfield.

I should think given even breaks the second half of the season after next ought to see Can really developing into the monster he has the ability to become. It may even take longer than that, so hopefully people give him time. On a side note, whoever is the manager for that period of time ought not to be castigated for either not playing him "in his best position (FFS it's so obvious!!)" every week, or indeed sometimes not playing him at all. These things take time.

Yeah I'm not sure if he'll begin the season as a starter either. I have much faith in him as a player but he needs more consistency - in terms of passing, discipline and better fitness as well - and will have to fight for his place, especially if we do end up signing Illarramendi.

I too have faith in him, but I have doubts whether he can reach his full potential under us if Milner was bought in for the first team and Henderson being a favourite of Rodgers. Then you have Allen who can play CM (box-box role) too, so I wonder if we will see Can in the midfield role often?

It's weird, I don't see Can as a box-box midfielder, nor do I see him as an attack or defensive midfielder specialist, He's simply a forward thinking deep lying CM if you get me? Still need to see more of Can in midfield to get a better idea.

Thru balls are easypeasy when you have a runner like that. Unlike LFc who have static strikers like balo & lambo.

He may be a bit like a Yaya Touré type of midfielder, if he doesn't get given the chance to play that position it'd be a crime and a waste. Think he is a box to box type though, like a juggernaut, not many people are going to push him off the ball, he's still very young too so he'll get even stronger. Scary.

He has had a bit of experience now in the Prem and perhaps a few games at CB was something he needed. But with no Gerrard he could make this position his. The best we saw from him last year was when he was going forward - players cant handle him.

I think the bulk of us agree that Can is quality , no more playing him as a defender . He needs to be given the chance to get forward . this is where he excels . A proper midfielder he is .

I can't believe there is so much worry about him playing as a defender. I guess I understand the external worries, because people who don't follow Liverpool couldn't really understand the position we were in and why Can was playing different positions. But internally, we should all be able to see what's in front of us, why he was played in a back 3, why he was played at full back, why we played him out of position instead of younger, inferior players who play that position. It's because he's Emre Can! He clearly has sublime talent and playing him anywhere was good for his development and better for the team over playing someone else there!

I am so looking forward to seeing him in the midfield BUT he and Henderson and Milner need some good cover behind them. If we don't replace Allen with someone who can ease Lucas' workload our young midfielders are going to have excruciating amounts of pressure put on them.

glad he's showing how good of a midfielder he is, we all knew that anyway but last season he had to play at the back to make up for the terrible season Lovren and others had so this kid had to step up. yes he made some mistakes towards the end of the season but he was also very composed for such a young player you would think he was much older due to how well he reads the game

Germany's final group game starts in 10 minutes on BT Sport 1 with the lad starting in midfield again.

Can's performance has been lackluster and slow. Yet again, his partner is the dominate midfielder.

His partner Johannes Geis looks like an immense player. Apprently Schalke thinks so too because they just signed him to a four-year deal.
