I like these threads because I do genuinely then make the effort to listen to the suggested albums and give them a go.
It concerns me when the likes of U2 and Coldplay are mentioned, however!
Radiohead - The Bends is a good shout because, like racer I'm reading the topic subject as bands with one great album, not just an album from your favourite band (I like some of Pablo Honey but it's not a great album).
The Offspring - SmashCareer defining work. One of the standout New-Wave Punk albums that didn't take itself too seriously and could be left to spin over and over on a hot summer's day or late night bender.
The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream.Gish was great but raw and not easily accessible.
Mellon Collie could have been great but was padded out by dodgy offerings to make a double album.
Everything they did after that was dog sh*t.
Between those two albums was a work of perfection with no weak links. Siamese Dream can still calm me after a bad day or bring a lump to my throat, inspiring memories of carefree times... when decent music was being made!
