Again, I'm not scapegoating him but Balotelli really is useless - he is making no forward runs and as a result no defenders are being pulled out of position which stretches play and creates space for us.

At least Lambert makes runs forward and creates space - all Balotelli is doing is chesting down long balls. A wet dream for Sam Allardyce but we expect much more from our players here.

Lallana has been the most threatening, then Sterling who is well behind Lallana in the attacking performance stakes. Joe Allen? I defend the guy, and he's pressed well in midfield today, but his attacking play has been dire - poor touch in the final quarter, no forward passing or darting runs forward.

I think we need Coutinho and Lambert on, Markovic should also be in for a shout. Defensively, Can and Gerrard seem to be protecting the back line well so far, Can offering the mobility and strength while Gerrard's distribution has been better than anyone in the side today.

But make no mistake - with Balotelli in the team, we aren't going to be  a goal threat.

But it is awful, were the home side, we were runners up last season, we're playing Hull and we have created fook all

And we're missing our two main pacey strikers from last season that created space and runs for the midfield to operate with. It was never going to be the same level of performances with those two not playing.

      We need Coutinho. Right now.
He's on a great form, why taking him off during the Madrid game and not starting him FFS.

Balotelli simply should not be played as a lone striker (for us)

      It was meant respectively.

Compared to some of our performances this season, I have seen worse than that first half.

Which doesn't mean there isn't room for light years of improvement!

I'd play Sterling with Lambert mate ... coutinho in behind .. Gerrard and lallana in midfield with can infront of the back 4.

Good this one target man thing. Why did we bother selling Carroll?

Agree entirely.  Last two games he's looked a lot lot better.  Totally baffled he didn't start - not getting rested for the League Cup game is he?

So play Sterling up there. What is the point of playing a lazy ass statue up top. Easy as fook to defend against today if you are Hull.

Take Sterling off and put Coutinho on.

Take our best player off ? surely we want those two on together to make any sort of impact.

That's the problem mate. Balotelli or Lambert, it's not going to make a difference. We're trying to play last season's fast attacking style of play with a lone target man substituting pacey strikers. It just doesn't work and I don't understand why Rodgers can't see that. Either shift Sterling ahead of Balotelli/Lambert or put Borini on ahead of them. Even if he doesn't score, he can create openings for the midfield to exploit.

Why Coutinho was rested is beyond me. He has looked our most lively player recently.

Sterling should be playing up top either with Borini or on his own.

We simply have to win this game, anything but 3 points out of this will be criminal.

Coutinho for Allen or Can on 60 mins, if no change.
Need to up the pace though across the team, way too slow.

Something I never understood from our summer signings.

Get in pacey players that fit last season's philosophy like Lallana and Markovic, then two slower, cumbersome strikers that don't fit the system.

I thought Lambert was going to be 3rd or 4th choice, with a new fast and mobile striker to partner Sturridge.

We even tried like mad to get rid of Borini, who seems (in theory) to suit the playing style we adopted last season better than the new boys.

      Just don't get it.

Take Can or Allen off, bring Coutinho or Lambert in.

And Sterling is not playing well. Should be subbed, imo.
