Give it a few matches, he's still getting up to match fitness which some forget.

Match fitness affects running, tracking back, pressuring, dribblingx etc. It doesn't affect being in a stationary position and deciding not to pass to somebody in a better position.

Just seen the goals, what a cracker of a goal from Coutinho he hit the ball with so much power and accuracy. Well done Phil.

      Filip Djuric

"We lost today but I think the whole game we had the ball in our possession and we had a couple of chances. If we opened the game with an early goal it could be have been different.

"We could have had two penalties but the referee didn't whistle.

"The first one I feel the contact, it was light contact but I fell down. The second one was more a penalty than the first one for sure. I feel his hand on my shoulder and I fell down.

"The first one was little bit light and this is England so there are a different type of criteria for the penalty, but the second one definitely."

      Rodgers

"It was a game we wanted a positive result from. Through winning it we would go three points behind third place, it would be a huge result and it was.

"We controlled the game as it went on. Our passing could have been better but the conditions were bad. To come here after a European game and get a win, it's a great result from the players.

"[On the Southampton penalty appeals] The player has gone over far too easy, no way that was a penalty. I thought referee Kevin Friend was excellent and I think all his decisions were right.

"To come here and keep a clean sheet is a great effort."

Sounds like people are getting frustrated at Sturridge these days. Interesting actually.

To be fair mate, he hasn't changed all that much, but the amount of times Suarez was ripping into him last year every time he made the wrong decision eventually balanced his decision making, and consequently made him a better player. He doesn't have that from another ego like Suarez, or Stevie's leadership, so we'll need Hendo to step up to the bollocking task. I wouldn't want to change his egoistic nature one littlebit, but it's a team game and every ego needs a counter ego, otherwise it's just unbalanced. Either that, or BR has a subtle word with him that he' could be just as important as Suarez if he adds more assists...bit of cheeky massaging of his ego in the right way ;)

I think you're on to something.  I think he's the kind of player who needs a more dominant strike partner.  Wonder if that was the problem when he was getting picked for his previous clubs - whether he was used as a lone striker more often.

Anyway, difficult to analyse him today - he wasn't on long but he did have a couple of chances I would have expected a bit more from.

He's actually surprisingly still a youngster and if I were to say he needs to be unselfish then I'd be talking nonsense. The guy is like a Brazilian- if he was Brazilian people wouldn't stop going on about him. They lad is getting match sharp and is the best striker in the world.

Went with Ibe for MOTM for the simple reason that as a 19 year old attacking midfielder, he put one of the best defensive displays in I've seen all season. As has been said, he showed a real level of maturity today. He is a massive star in the making. Also shout out to BR for his tactical change that realistically won us the game and for becoming the first Liverpool manager in thirty years to go five away games with a clean sheet. Who'd have thought that back in November?!

I missed the game, thanks JD for that video clip.. How did Cou manage to score that goal? He must have put in hours of shooting practice. Shot executed with so much power and accuracy is truly amazing. It is this kind of matches that we needed someone to shoot accurately and score when we played badly Well done, well done.

I've genuinely not heard anybody say anything you posted there.

Not those exact words, but quite similar have been posted in the BR thread.

That was the most chilled out response to an obviously ignorant and bit of casual racism, so not sure what you mean. I'm happy to dish out an explanation of why I think that kind of comment has no place in football, let alone in our club.
