What a vital win considering the results of other teams over the weekend. Good to see we can grind out 3 points when needed.
Migs: Quite possibly the most in-form keeper in the league right now. Has always had the shot stopping ability, and now the rest of his game is coming along as well.
Lovren: Absolutely terrible in the 1st, and just ok in the 2nd. I am really waiting for him to step it up and cement that spot so Can can move up. I really was excited when I heard we were signing this guy as I was very impressed with him last year. Biggest disappointment for me so far.
Skrtel: MOTM. Solid as a rock. From the opening game of the season to now, has there been more of a consistent player than him? He's a warrior.
Can: Not his best performance, but he did switch sides so maybe that had something to do with it.
Markovic: Our worst player on the day. Amazes me how he looks so promising for 5 minutes, then can't find a pass/loses possession in one way or another for the next 30. Starting to have my doubts as he is showing a lack of quality, more often than quality.
Hendo: Great shift today. Amazing how energetic he was in the last few minutes, still pressing until the end. That's what a captain does, leads by example.
Allen: Probably our most underrated player on the day. He does the little things that no one on here seems to give him credit for. He always seems to be there on the defensive side, helping out/double teaming/pressing the ball. And offensively, he really keeps the ball moving for us: one side to the next, making the other team constantly shift. Even if it is side to side passing, that helps us spread teams out. His best performance in a while.
Ibe: I didn't think he was as dominating while running with the ball, but he put one hell of a shift in. He's really made that position his own.
Couts: What a goal. I agree he looks a little tired, but he's our most creative player by a country mile. His role in the squad is vital.
Lallana: I really, really rate him. But not good today. Ineffective when he had the ball. I love his energy though.
Sterling: Opportunistic with his goal. I really would like to see him clean up his passing though. His pass to Moreno on the build up to his goal was sloppy, and I feel I say that a lot about him during the games. I would like to see one game where we deploy him as a wingback, with Ibe on the other side. Talk about speed and directness on the wings.
Moreno: Gave us stability that we desperately needed.
Studge: He's always been greedy, that is not going to change. He made an immediate impact though, and we look ten times more dangerous when he's on the pitch.
Johnson: wasted a bit of time with his injury. His best contribution in a while.
Onwards and upwards. City does not scare me, unless we get beat up in away leg on Thursday. Have to say, I do think Southampton are a good side. Quality players and a quality manager. Was surprised how bad Forster was as I really rate him.
