We simply didn't show up in the second half.

You could argue we didn't really show up in the first game, either, and needed a late penalty to even get a goal.

Worst possible outcome going out on pens with the City game on Sunday.  Got what we deserved though and Rodgers shown up again in Europe.

I have not seen the match so will not comment on players performance. What I will comment on though is the resting of players, i believe we should play our strongest side in every game.We had better beat City to justify resting players.

Completely disagree. Continuo has looked exhausted lately and clearly needed a rest, he would have burnt out tonight. Hendon has been running ragged every game too. That's why you rotate a squad and you can't possibly play your best 11 every game when we've already played 43 games.

The tactics were wrong today, Lallana should have come on earlier in second half to shore up the midfield where we were getting overrun and Lovren shouldn't have taken pen. Blame BR for tactics but not resting players.

Lovren shouldn't be made the scapegoat, there were far far worse players out there tonight than Dejan.

Raheem Sterling in particular.

How many games did he win in Europe.  It's not like I wanted to go out... its just it was obvious we wouldn't win this cup so why waste energy playing in it and ruining our chance of top 4....

Think we all knew we were heading home when Lovren stepped up but at least he had the bottle to take one unlike Sterling and Moreno.

Amazed we even got to penalties though. The last 75 minutes were as poor as anything we've produced under Brendan - the sole tactic of sitting back and hoofing it out was just f**king embarrassing. Real shame considering the first 45 minutes was a goal away from being the perfect away performance. Should have kept going like in the second half and surely we'd have nicked one. No response to the goal either, if anything we got worse and lost every 50-50 which was awful to see.

Not surprising overall though. Brendan doesn't really have a clue in Europe and he's not helped by having a squad  full of players who don't have a clue about European away games.

underestamating them, didnt make changes in second half when they were attacking us, wave after wave. cant sit there and expect it to get better by itself.

Very disappointing to go out on the night taking game on its merits.
Based on the first half performance, thought we had it.
Whatever was in the tea at half time, we came out and were sh*te from then on. Terrible. Couldn't keep the ball.

Very odd BR not making a change BEFORE Besiktas scored, thought he was VERY late bringing off one of the anonymous front two. Couldn't understand it.
Have to somehow regroup for City. Will not be easy, alot of mentally and physical tired guys out there tonight.

Thought our attacking players were atrocious, without exception.

IMO, Migs and Skrtel were good, Touré wasn't bad, and despite being off form, Can fought for every ball from start to finish.
