Brazilian website Globo Esporte saying we're coming "strong" in the battle for Firmino. It also says people involved in the negotiation guarantee it won't be for less than 25M euros and that Man City and Man Utd also want him.

So "we're in for him" of course we wont get him but once the window shuts people can say "if we'd got Firmino like we tried."

Man Utd I reckon he'll finish up.

Not really sure why we need another attacking midfielder but the guy can score goals so I can't complain. Not like we are even in for him anyways, just saying.

add to the list of our every growing squad which is getting top heavy.

If we keep Lucas and have Can as defensive midfielder too, he's already half defensive minded, I know he can surge forward box to box style, but that mightn't be the way to go, have forward midfielders and midfielders who stay in position further back, and actually use the ball, it's quicker than running with it.
if we signed another DM that's be 3, quite a luxury amount to have in the squad for that position. Then there is Joe Allen... I digress.
Say we buy another defensive minded midfielder, then that's 3, what teams have 3 Dm's in their squad? I understand the importance of Dm and for seasons the outcry for a world class one but, if we could actually keep a shape on the field the defensive minded midfielders could stay in position.
If we spent all our budget on Pogba and the manager instructed him to be our only DM,  he gets injured, we're f'd

Some formation has to be well tuned in order for any success to happen regardless of who we sign, it can't change constantly to try and surprise the enemy? Everyone needs to know their role and hone their craft.
Milner or Henderson would easily slip into DM when required.
My point is DM is a thing each season but a solid formation would let multiple players fill this role. Need to keep our shape or any DM will be exposed and therefore wrecked.

City and Utd will be linked to everyone, just to bump any price up.

Why would United want him now they have Depay as well as Di Maria, Mata, Januzai, Valencia, Young .... Surely it IS realistic to suggest that we might be able to get a player who currently plays for Hoffenheim? Can little Cou Not be influential in this happening? If we get Firmino, Clyne and Digne for the price of Sterling that would be fantastic!

Why even bother opening this thread - more chance of getting David Villa a few seasons back.

Couldn't agree more, we need to face reality, we're not gonna sign these type of players this season :(
