Firmino is quality. He's a real multidimensional player, his ability, his game intelligence, his work rate - it all makes him one of our most important players.
However, I do find the whole "and they said he didn't score enough!" type of post a bit tiresome.
Guess what - he didn't score enough. 11 and 12 goals in his first two seasons was hardly a great return. I've seen much worse players score more than that, and as a number 9 he needs to score more regularly.
I've argued more than once that I'm pretty sure Klopp thinks so too. He kept his trust on Firmino not because he thinks 11 goals a season was OK for a striker, but because he probably believes in his ability to become a better goalscorer.
So far this season he's been that, and long may it continue.
But if I may provide some context. Raheem Sterling is outscoring him having played fewer minutes/matches. Number of assists is similar or the same if I'm not mistaken.
And at this point of the season, even Coutinho has a greater scoring rate than Firmino in both the league and the Champions League (not to mention Mo Salah).
7 league goals is decent for a striker but not particularly great, which is why all the top strikers (Kane, Aguero, Lukaku, Morata, Jesus etc) all have more and he's level with Vardy. There's a reason why we've beaten opponents in the UCL group stage 7-0 twice this season alone, but never do the same in the league, and that's because they are lesser sides than most Premier League teams.
As I said at the start, I'm happy with Firmino and think he can continue to get better. He's an incredible footballer and I hope to see him play for Brazil at the World Cup next year. It's just the whole "proving doubters wrong" stuff around him that I find very tiring as it lacks perspective.
