      Oh Lovren. ;D

      The main goal is fitness.

We're giving fitness to players who won't start or feature a lot next season, counter productive Imo.  But I see the sentiments behind it I just want to see us win.

On a side note, it looks like Hendo will be our free kick specialist :(

Was hoping it would be Milner, think he scored 1 or 2 nice free kicks last year and hes known for having a good delivery.

So's Postman pat, but we need someone who's going to be around a while like Gerrard was and I think Hendo fits the bill better IMO.

Some of Henderson's free kick last season were no better than completely shocking.

Whats there to say Milner wont be around for a while? Also Suarez didnt stick around for anywhere near as long as Gerrard and he was our free tick taker when he was here.

Won quite a bit last pre-season.

      Did F**k-all for us.

Get home with no injuries + good fitness + some team bonding = successful preseason IMO

      Well what can we gleam from that match;

Origi although he has the goods is a work in progress, no way he can lead the line at the moment

Same old problems at the back with the CB pairing still looking weak

Ibe is going to be some player this season

Lallana still holds onto the ball too long turning on the ball going no where.

Mitigating factor heat must have played a part as they all looked leggy.

Have to say that i have seen nothing during this pre-season that leads me to think that we will do nothing but struggle again this season.

Although pre-season is about fitness, it is also about preparing a definite system of play , whilst helping new players to develop an understanding with the established players.

Unfortunately, the defence look like complete strangers, the midfield has no rythym or balance and the frontline has blundered through games.
We have been up against basically 3rd tier teams and huffed and puffed. I know it's been hot and fitness needs working on , but we should still be able to see a style of play in there somewhere.
I feel once again its back to the drawing board , and after nearly four years , this is depressing.

This is a joke of a post.

      This is 100% about fitness.

Has nothing to do with defining a system of play. It's clearly for getting players some game time at game speed to get them ready for the real season.

It's amazing how people can make a comment about how we are going to play this season seeing as how our three most important players aren't even involved yet.

What did you think of last years pre-season when we romped through some of the best of Europe?

Lovren just doesn't fill me with confidence and would rather we sell him tbh. I think Sakho will make the difference with Ilori as cover.

the midfield has no rythym or balance and the frontline has blundered through games.

I think the midfield is lacking the #10, and with Coutinho & Firmino to come in, with the right setup, I can see it improving our overall balance and team as a whole. We'll definitely be far better in attack and midfield.
Imagine Chelsea without Hazard & Fabregas, Arsenal without Sanchez or City without Aguero & Silva? They would struggle in attack too!

My only concern at the moment is our attacking play during the tour. We are looking to setup in a way that favours wide play, so I do wonder how Coutinho and Firmino are gonna be utilised.

Only caught the 2nd half and it looked pretty laboured with Ibe the only bright spot that I could see. I wouldn't read too much into our prep, they send the lads half way around the frickin world with matches in three different countries and we're missing two of our most creative players in Coutinho and Firmino and also missing Can and the newly arrived Benteke.

      Lovren was terrible, again.

Is it me or did we look a more stable balanced defensive outfit with Gomez at left back?

You missed a bit of Lallana in the first half, but dont worry,it was not much.

Even though two of those " most important players " haven't kicked a ball for this club yet.
What i am getting at is, can you name me two of our players who have an excellent understanding of each others play?  A lot of our players still play like they have never met.
Especially the defence, which is infuriating. Some may not like to admit it , but, we have no identity to our play. It's always passing for the sake of passing. No intent, no clear pattern to our play.
Nothing i have seen so far this pre-season has led me to believe any lessons have been learnt.

Also, if they are going to complain about us turning up to play whilst their league is ongoing, and if they are going to kick lumps out of our players as well, there's a part of me hopes we stick two fingers up to them and conduct our pre-season elsewhere.
