This guys stats the last two seasons suggest he is an out and out striker.

What position is he playing at Shaktar?

Did he convert from an AM role to a striker role?

I'm all for getting in players with terrific strike rates, but I'd prefer them to be scoring them in a better league, and yes I place Suarez at Ajax as being in a better league.

That said, why have we left it so late, is this going to have shades of forgetting to send the money last minute ie. Konoplyanka from Dnipro.

And that's another thing.  Have we got a big team of scouts in Ukraine or something?

It's notable to me that it is Joyce and Barrett who have broke the news. They get news from sources at the club, meaning the club are basically happy to have the news get out. For me, it's either done or isn't going to happen with us all still saying in two months time "they mean business, though, cos we were going to spend 32 million Euros on that lad who's club wanted 50 million Euros".

It happened during his last training with Shakhtar in USA a few hours before Ian Ayre got on the plane.

@srlslfc i've seen compilations of him from this season, also saw Sakhtar's games in UCL, and i watched him when he played alongside Douglas Costa at Shakhtar, and he was better than him in my opinion. Looked how good of a transfer Douglas turned out to be for Bayern. Costa could be the same for us.

Sounds like he's already signed and picked up the mandatory hamstring injury.

There's always a bigger element of uncertainty when players come from smaller, less demanding leagues but most players out of Shakhtar recently have been pretty solid elsewhere, such as Willian (Chelsea), Douglas Costa (Bayern), Mkhitaryan (Dortmund), Fernandinho (Man City).

Obviously that guarantees nothing regarding Alex Teixeira but it makes me more confident that he can make an impact in the EPL. Both Willian and Douglas Costa were promising youngsters in Brazil who showed all their lack of experience with certain predictability and a deficient end product. Both seem to have become much better players at Shakhtar, greater work rate and tactical awareness, much better end product etc.

Whether that was just to them naturally maturing with age or not, I have a feeling it may be in large part due to the work done at the club. Their manager (Lucescu) has been there for ages (over 10 years) so there's a big element of continuity in the work they do with the youngsters they sign from South America.

I've personally never heard of him (obviously) except that I was aware Chelsea were after him. As for the hamstring, well it happens. Sign him anyway, it'll heal.
