Nothing good was ever going to come from playing a friendly in another country a day after playing Barcelona regardless of whether we won or lost in the first game. The players are probably fu**ed and rightly so. They worked their arses off yesterday.

They did indeed, and I am sure they were on a high and felt they could take on anyone. The fact that next day they get thumped by a lower league German team, whilst not playing well is not the perfect prep to play our first Premiership match!

Yesterday's game meant nothing and today's means nothing as well.

i understand that most of the players will not start week in week out....but the manor of the play, the level of performance, the lack of quality from the players like lallana, can and origi is frightening.

its like they can just switch it off for fun

Which is why neither Matip or Wisdom will start next week, the game against Barca was pretty much our main team, concentrate more on that performance than today, I guarantee that is what Klopp will be doing, when they get back to Melwood. Literally the fact were playing it a day after says all you need to know how arsed we've taken this game.

No disrespect meant but the players (a) can't have been feeling up as much for Mainz game (b) probably thought this was a walk over (c) physical and mental fatigue.

Isn't it basically just Klopp doing his mates at Mainz a favour, few quid in the clubs pocket for the crowd in today, looked to be mostly their first team, whereas ours is more the reserves plus a couple of players who needed minutes on the pitch.

Couldn't the favour be done on another day though? I get why the friendly was made but when the league starts in a week it didn't seem the wisest of decisions tbh.

Not arsed by this match at all, we smashed Barca yesterday. When do teams ever play on consecutive days once the season starts? This result is irrelevant.

While I think it was a harsh pen I also agree he's miles off what we need, far too square on in his entire stature. He's built for something other than football in my opinion.

He just doesn't give me any confidence at all, he really struggled on loan at Norwich too, he just isn't really suited to the top flight IMO.

Friendly or not, what we witnessed today was an embarrassment....Klopp will probably say the same in his post.

But before people start getting upset and their knickers in a twist by this result, it was a far weaker team we fielded than yesterday and that's the other key point, yesterday. It was always going to be tough to get a result.
