Roberto Firmino charged with drink driving

25-year-old Liverpool FC forward pulled over in Liverpool city centre

      BY STEVE GRAVES        12:14       26 DEC 2016

Liverpool FC forward Roberto Firmino has been charged with drink driving after being pulled over on Christmas Eve.

Merseyside Police have confirmed that the 25-year-old was arrested after his car was pulled over in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of December, 24.

The forward is set to appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court later this week.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “Merseyside Police has charged a 25-year-old man with drink driving after his car was stopped in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Saturday, December 24 2016.

“Roberto Firmino, from Liverpool, will appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court [later this week.]”

The Brazilian signed for Liverpool from German club Hoffenheim in July 2015 for £29m.

Since then he has scored 17 goals in 67 appearances and is a key part of the Reds stellar performances and Premier League title push this season under Jürgen Klopp.

Firmino has 13 caps for Brazil and has scored five goals for his country.

A spokesperson for LFC said the club would not be commenting on the issue until the legal process had run its course.

Silly boy he should be dropped for the next game.

My concern is the court date is the same day we play Chelsea. So will he have to miss that game?

      Stupid f**ker.

He should be dropped for that.

Won't make much difference to the first team he's been poor the last few games.

No, he should not be dropped. He did nothing against the club. He should be banned from driving and fined nothing more.

Nah not that simple. He'll get fined by the club too I would guess. With the example he sets needs to be punished and if nothing less the club will not be happy with him putting himself at unnecessary risk with the amount of money we pay him.

Then of course you have the morality issue of getting in a car and putting other lives at risk.

Big mistake from Firmino, I'd back him to score a couple tomorrow too.

If found guilty, the he is an irresponsible fool.

Personably, if guilty, I'd fine him a months wages, donate this to a needy rehabilitation centre for trauma, and send him to spend time with injured people from drunk drivers.

Seriously, this day and age. WTF!

Why do Pro football players even need to drink alcohol? As part of the profession they should just give it up. A small price to pay for the £millions they make!!!!

Or at least.. don't drive! Can't afford a taxi?

I don't have a problem with players having a couple of drinks at 🎄 Christmas.  I do have a problem with anyone getting into a car after having a drink. I know people who will happily drive after 2 glasses of wine, I personally will not drive if I've had any drink. The money they are on they should book a taix or pay a driver, why take the chance! Yes, he's an idiot, but let's wait 'til we hear the facts before we hang, draw and quarter him.

It's ok for them to have a drink but it's completely stupid to drink and drive a car. FFS how much does a cab cost? He could even rent a limo...

^^^ Totally agree with this, don't think dropping him for 1+ games should be the way to go should receive a different punishment from the Club, like RP said.

Newsflash, humans are human and therefore do human things. Not a smart thing to do in any regards, lucky no one was injured. Hope he's punished accordingly and doesn't do something so stupid anymore.

Bang on.  Not the first person to do something stupid.  Won't be the last.  Recognize it, apologize for it, accept the punishment, don't do it again, and move on.

Loses an awful lot of respect for a moronic decision. I can forgive many mistakes but this type is not easily forgiven or forgotten.

I know some say above that it doesn't impact on his football which in some ways is true but he's still a representative of the club and in doing this he has harmed our reputation by association.

Lucky lad not to have hurt someone, no matter how little he was over the limit. Learn from it and don't make the same irresponsible and moronic choice/mistake.

      This all day.
Let's not jump to conclusions, he may have been pulled initially for something quite trivial and the bizzie smelled ale then breathalized him. He may have hade 3 wines all day which would take him over.
Cannot imagine him falling out of the car being pissed out of his head.

Silly to form lynch mobs when nobody knows the background detail.
