Aguero continuing his run of never scoring at Anfield :)

And our run of shutting down players on their Anfield return after acrimonious departures continues!

      Suck it Raheem!

Happy new year to all my red brothers and sisters!

Gini constantly has a smile on his face, loved that it was him who got the eventual winner.

      Ratings:

Migs: Thought he played well, some of his passing was poor but when we needed him to be quick off his line he was more than up to the challenge. Can only recall a shot from Aguero to save so overall we kept them at bay well, but still did what he had to. 7

Milner: Will say that he started the game slow but from there he was brilliant, though his crosses could have been better he was targeted and was more that up to the challenge. Rarely got beaten or even allowed the cross to enter the box. Had Sterling in his pocket and gave him a good whack and a mouthful. 8

Klavan: Having been put in the sh*t from Milly so early and picking up a soft yellow he had to be on his game from there and was. Thought he dealt with Aguero very well and didn't let them get much joy at all. 7.5

Lovren: Couple of shaky moments and a bit panicky when we came under the only real pressure in the game with his strange clearance but other than that did well. 7.5

Clyne: So much of our space and offensive situations end at Clyne's feet and it's frustrating the hell out of me. 6

Henderson: Thought he was poor in the first half and while some are convinced it was an injury why he went off (probably was) but he wasn't near his high standards of recent games. Disappointing from Jordan in my opinion and the trend is heading the wrong direction for a few games now, time to kick it back up a few gears Jordan. 6

Gini: What a goal, brilliant header that and I thought he had much more of an impact in the game today (aside from the obvious). Too many sloppy passes but to be fair it was a phase when everyone on both sides couldn't find a team-mate. From him though I was surprised as he is usually composure personified. 7.5

Can: Not loving Emre in our side right now, seems a yard slower both physically and mentally than others around him. Not sure it can be put down to simply match fitness. By no means was it a terrible performance but in fact more of a worry because he just doesn't seem to fit. 6.5

Lallana: Best player in the league right now, silky smooth, doesn't delay the play as he used to and is contributing so well up top consistently. MotM again and he's miles clear for player of the season on my book. 8.5

Firmino: Thought he made the right runs in the first half but his touch was bloody awful. Thankfully he stepped it up massively in the second half and was one of our better players in that second 45. So from me would be something like a 6 for the first half and 8 for the second giving a solid 7.

Mane: Love him, going to miss him massively because that outlet is vital in the big games. Always pressuring in both directions, he is either pressuring you on the ball or pressuring you with it. Didn't get any joy off the ref but his head didn't drop and I was impressed with him today in terms of attitude more than anything else. 7.5

Origi: Should have done more with the possession he had and a little step backwards from the previous game. Still did reasonably well but with the fresh legs I think he should have had a bigger impact. 6

Klopp: Top change of tactics, gave City virtually nothing and if our lads had been anywhere near composed we'd have ripped City a new one there. As it was it went scrappy and in a way it feels more when you just get over the line. Having said that though we never looked in real danger other than perhaps when Silva stepped inside Hendo. Jürgen 1 - 0 Guardiola and let's not forget how much they've spent compared to ourselves. Thankfully we've got the better manager, loved that Jürgen. 9

Well I thought that was a quality, thoroughly professional performance. Well done to all at the back, Migs didn't have to make a save. That's one goal conceded in four matches now since Migs came back, without Matip too. That is a top effort.

      Quote
Liverpool's James Milner on BT Sport: "It’s a tough game, they’re a top, top team. It was just about the result. Arguably it’s one of the worst performances for how we want to play. But it was a gutsy performance.

“We had to grind out the result. You can’t always win games the way you want. It’s a massive victory. There’s a long way to go but it’s pleasing to be up there at Christmas.”

Push on from here lads. Need to up our game vs Sunderland, and hope Chelsea get beat by Spurs!

Why is it the opposition's fans call us bang average everytime we beat them? :D.

Henderson has his heel problem again by the sounds of it.

What a f***in win that was, we can't and won't be all flair and frills all the time, winning ugly is also part and parcel of our mantra, we can win from the front,  we can win coming from behind. We can win ugly,  and we can f***in batter teams all over the piece,
Who gives a F**k how we do it, 3 pts is the goal each and every game,

Pundits go on about how the likes of Scum, Chavs city are a work in progress with new management,  well what about us,  we're a work in progress too. But we've beaten, Arse, Chavs, Spuds away & Citeh,
I can't wait for the Chavs game now, we'll close that gap,  and they will trip up, that's for sure,  great win that,  a great ending to 2016.

      Get the F**k in Redmen!

Happy New Year to all  of my Red Brethren from all over our wee globe,
Wishing You All A Happy, Healthy & Prosperous Title Winning 2017

Well done Jürgen, wouldn't go so far to say we 'won ugly', but it wasn't our usual flowing, dominate the ball/possession, lots of chances, match. Nullified them really, and took one of our chances, but there wasn't a whole lot in it.

Lot of credit to the two CBs, Lovren and Klavan fought for every ball and kept Aguero and others quiet. FBs did well too. Migs was solid again. Great for us to be able to win a game scoring just one goal ;)

Lallana was good again, but gave MOTM to Gini for a cracking header that won the match, and generally good play in the middle. Emre I thought was OK, but a bit rusty. Hendo did OK too, hope his injury (if thats what it was) is not too bad. Firmino wasn't great, Mane did OK. Even Origi when he came on, did well enough, but like others on the night, took the wrong option could of times.

But all in all an excellent 3 points :) Credit to the back 5 for the clean sheet. For Jürgen and his tactical change. We beat another title challenger, and roll on Sunderland and into the new year with plenty to look forward to in 2nd half of season :) !!!!!
