not sure, if its true that he refuses to play then why would they keep him, they'd have to be complete fecking morons in that case.
Well, read that back to yourself again and remember it's Southampton....;)

But that's what we've been told just about every week this entire window. I think they will make him stay out of spite.

Apparently there's a picture floating around with VVD with his back to the camera pointing to his name on the back of a LFC shirt wearing number 4.

      If we sign him.....

When will be ready? Hasnt played since february. Spent most of pre season training on his own. No match fitness very little man on man training. Plus would need to learn to play with new team mates and new system.

Realistically before you get the best of him how long gone is the season?

I'll be bloody annoyed if we can't get this one over the line. It would give us a very good defensive unit for next season and for years to come. If we could also somehow get Keita, turned down contract extension today, then we really could start to look at the league as a realistic target.

Quite a few rumours about Chelsea this morning, Saints will be VERY keen to seek to any of the club bar LFC so I wouldn't be so sure this one happens.

That's a good point mate, say we got him, he might not be properly easy until mid September. Having said that, the squad we have can cope for the first couple of months it's beyond that I would worry.

Caught that one a while back.

By all accounts they'd rather the Chavs have him than us, for obvious reasons.

Reports in the papers that Chelsea think they can have this signed and sealed by next weekend. Southampton are obviously talking to Chelsea, but what if VVD insists he won't join Chelsea, they cannot force him. This whole saga is proof to me that the transfer window is too long and needs to end at least 1 week before the start of the season.

It's dragged on like this because of our own incompetence not because the window is too long.

Sorry but for what obvious reasons, would it be the reason that we've been an excellent customer for them the past 3 transfer windows?? I mean what the f**k is their problem, do they hate making money, or do they harbor some delusion that they can one day become a big club, if so then they need to sell that idea a bit better to their own players!

F**k being nice and respectful to Southampton, slap an offer on the table, flirt openly with VVD saying how much we rate him blah blah blah, agitate for the move, stir sh*t up so they have no choice but to sell to us.
Utter c**t of a club Southampton is and to think they have an ex-red in charge who is behaving like this, shameful.

Don't be so ridiculous. Good on them for not rolling over and simply letting the player walk. Barca are trying to sign our best player. They can fu...ck off and do one. That's the attitude we should have (and appear to have). You can't have it both ways, expect other clubs to let their players leave regardless of contract and then be pissed if FSG do the same thing, surely? As for the previous business we have done with Saints, they didn't want Lovren to go, they certainly didn't want to lose Lallana either but both players threw a strop and pushed the moves through. Saints fans hate LFC with a passion, which is unfortunate because I live in Southampton (eastleigh). Selling more players to LFC isn't popular with the fans down here so the board there won't be keen.

Not a case of being ridiculous at all, Southampton have done very very well financially out of dealing with us. They now have a player who doesn't want to play for them who they can sell for a huge profit. The only reason not to do this is out of small minded spite, its not good for business or the team.
BTW if Coutinio was to make it clear he wants to leave, in the same way as VVD has, then I would absolutely say sell him, get as much as we can for him, but he hasn't and that is a big big difference. The fact that you get some grief by living in Southampton is just some unfortunate collateral damage but at least you know you support a much much better team than them ;-)

      You silly b***ard.

I understand that along with yourself, our manager's (past & present), board and bean counters think Southampton is J f**king Sainsbury's but the reality on the ground is far removed. They are not a shop who hand out loyalty bonuses for stripping them of their produce off the shelf every bloody season.

Couple it with the utter embarrassing incompetence of our lot trying to stroke VVD up, and it clearly and rightly boiled their blood. They detest us, their board are also apparently more willing to sell to a despised club like Chelsea than us. When your own club is despised more than Chelsea then you know exactly where you stand with them and their fan base. Their fan base will have as much resentment & pressure on them selling VVD us (way more than Chelsea - in fact they'd rather he go there!), as we'd put on FSG to prevent Coutinho going to Barca. Think about it and stop acting like they're a f**king supermarket - it's bad enough our club does.

PS. Still hope we sign him.  :D

Doesn't make sense for Chelsea to sign VVD, they have Cahill, Luiz, Azpillicueta and Rudiger, with Christensen who had 2 very strong seasons at Monchengladbach and is back in the Chelsea fold.

Didn't make sense for them to sign Salah and then loan him out either.

£50m to weaken one of their main threats this season is pocket change for them.

No club likes to sell there best players.

For teams in Southampton positions selling your best players will end getting you religated. The last time they went down it took them seven years to get back up, if that happened now when the bottom Pl teams get near £100 million in tv money. They lose £700 million in TV money alone. It turns the profit made from selling players into a loss.
