I fully accept VAR is regrettably here to stay. There is no currency in quoting an incident where VAR supports a decision in your/our favour.
It also gets decisions wrong...which in my opinion renders it pointless. Liverpool will gain from, and lose from VAR judgements...exactly the same as what happened before VAR was conceived.
No it's not exactly the same. Before VAR, the decision that cost us was often the wrong one.
This is the 4th league season we've had it, and the 6th year in some form. You can cry about how it should be discarded as long as you want, but it's not going to be, so forget it. Equally, I can also use the cases where justice was done between us getting a result and not, such as the weekend, or the Charity Shield, as to why it's necessary.
You may well be correct in saying it's not the system but the people trusted to implement it, but people are flawed...all of us make mistakes for loads and loads of complex reasons...it's technically called noise, why different people come to different judgements when given the same facts. Doctors...insurance adjusters, even finger print specialist's misjudge the evidence in front of their own eyes. So whilst human judgement is part of the VAR process it can never be 100% reliable, and if it's not 100% reliable then it serves no greater purpose than a single referee.
What you're demanding is either absolute perfection or get rid, when you know neither will happen. It's there to cut down on howlers, and that you don't score a goal to win a game when you're 5 yards offside. So if you're onside or offside, then the technology is there to prove it. There's no discussion to be had. Tonight, we have our first experience of the semi-automated offside system, so hopefully it won't take 2 minutes to make an offside decision as it did at the weekend, but if it does it does. It may not get absolutely every single decision spot on, but it's still better than the alternative that exists in my own national league, where we don't even have GLT available, let alone VAR.
For 4 years, I've read post after post here baying that we get to play Real Madrid in the European Cup, so that everyone can let Sergio Ramos what they think of him, in a language he doesn't understand. It doesn't seem to make any difference that he doesn't actually play for Real anymore. But if we had VAR that night in Kiev, justice would have been done on the spot, and things may have turned out differently.
