I know what you've said about them, and it baffles me. Why people pick holes after we've just destroyed the opposition 3 4 5 zip beats me.
Most British pundits knowledge of Spanish football consists of Real Madrid and Barcelona, everyone else from there is rubbish, and their dismissive attitude to the other European competition stinks. But you just don't get into the quarter finals of this competition, without being a decent side. How many times have Seville won a European trophy in recent years? More than the mancs anyway.
You can tell me I'm wrong about Rafa and Houllier if you want. I have my opinions and I back them up. Houllier was widely condemned at the time for the 0-0 draw in Barcelona, and questioned by Beckenbauer for parking the bus at home to Leverkusen. Benitez was attacked by Cryuff for the first 0-0 draw at Chelsea. So it's more than just me. The 2001 cup final in Cardiff was a park the bus job until we went behind. Then we started playing and rescued the game. You can argue we got the result we wanted and even I wouldn't dispute that, but in doing so you prove my point that fans of this, or any club, will accept any way of winning while it delivers results and trophies.
It doesn't matter how good you are, there's always room for improvement. What's wrong with discussing it? Isn't that why we're here? Or are we only allowed to come on and say 'we were excellent today, perfect performance, every single player played exceptionally well, nothing more to say'? That would be pretty boring in my opinion.
We might beat a team by 3 or 4 but I'll still express concern over some things. I'm not one of those super fans who wears rose tinted specs. I'll just say it how it is.
We often blow teams away nowadays but we still have some issues to address. So what's so wrong with highlighting them? If I only spoke about our problems whenever we lost or drew then wouldn't you call me a knee jerk?
We currently have big problems in both centre midfield and at right back for example. It's ok when we're playing at home against Watford because our attack will just drill sh*t teams like that and rip them apart, so people either ignore the issues or are blinded by it because of the scoreline. But against better opposition I expect those issues to be exposed, a bit like united away.
Moving on from that, i honestly couldn't give a sh*t about what Sevilla have won in recent seasons. I've said three or four times now they aren't the same side that they were a couple of seasons ago. It's going straight over your head though. Leicester city won the league 2 seasons ago. They're now a mid table side. Do you still consider them a top team?
Now you can pretend to be an expert on Spanish football and sevilla if you want, but I've not seen one person agree with you on it. During the quarter final draw, pretty much every single pundit said that Sevilla are the weakest team left in the competition by some margin and that everybody will be hoping to get them. That's despite having Roma in it, who aren't anything special, and us whos players are inexperienced at this stage.
We've played sevilla twice and in both games we absolutely battered them but our defending, and in particular Moreno, let us down. If you think otherwise there's just no debating with you any further on this. In my opinion your digging your heels in to prove some sort of weird point. Just watch the games again and then come back and tell me how great sevilla are.
And your idea of parking the bus is just completely wrong. I don't think you understand what parking the bus actually means. The FA cup final 2001 I was there and I remember it well. And we did not park the bus. We just got absolutely smashed for 80 minutes by the best team in the country at that time. They were just better than us and completely outplayed us. There is a big difference in parking the bus and not being able to get on the ball.
Ok, if you thought we were boring, negative and repeatedly parked the bus under both houllier and Rafa then fine, nothing I will say will change your mind but based on your comments I don't think you really understand football, or maybe just the phrase parking the bus. Rafa is a defensive manager, there is nothing wrong with that, but he always showed attacking intent too. We always had a flair about us. We could always play football.
United, for example, purposely turn up to games (look at their visits to anfield in recent seasons) and PARK A BUS. Meaning they have absolutely no intention on attacking us. They want a 0-0 draw.
Against us, they pushed both wingers into the full back positions and then pushed the full backs inside effectively having 4 centre halves and a 6 man defence. They then had three holding midfielders. Now that is the definition of parking the bus and we have never done any such thing.
Other teams like West Brom and Everton have played that way. They hope to get a lucky break somewhere, from a set piece perhaps. And that's why everybody in the game describes them as bus parkers. But we have never, ever, been like that. Who has ever called us that apart from you? I've never in my life seen anybody call liverpool a bus parking side so I do wonder if you actually understand the phrase, or football.
Finally, i didn't prove any point of yours because I think your just waffling and talking absolute nonsense to be honest. I would never agree with the mourinho approach (as described as above) even if we won a trophy at the end of it. I wouldn't accept that style at all and I'd be repeatedly calling for the manager to be sacked.
I've repeatedly said I couldn't get behind that approach and I'm thankful we're nothing like them (and we never were under either houllier or Rafa, you're talking absolute sh*t).
Just going round in circles now aren't we. Cba reading your reply on how great sevilla are, how negative we were under houllier and Rafa, and then how I wouldn't give a sh*t if we parked the bus as long as we won a trophy. So I won't be replying any more.
