Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes is in talks over a summer move to Liverpool after Jürgen Klopp outlined the Portuguese star as his top transfer target, according to claims in the Portuguese press.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Klopp has identified the former Sampdoria man as a perfect midfield partner for Naby Keita at Anfield next season and has instructed club bosses to open talks over a summer swoop.
Portugal international Fernandes has a €100million release clause in his Sporting contract, which he signed upon joining the club last summer in a €8.5million deal.
And it’s claimed the Portuguese giants are unwilling to discuss a reduced fee for the midfielder – meaning the potential £88m investment will shatter the club record £75m Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk in January.
A Bola suggest Liverpool are ready to make their move for Fernandes now after a clutch of other clubs, including Chelsea, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid, also made their interest known for the 23-year-old.
Fernandes has four caps for his country and 29 goals in 183 games during his career, which has also taken in spells at Novara and Udinese, as well as Samp.
Another of Klopp’s top targets, Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos, is said to be closing in on a move to one of the Reds’ European rivals.
