Well. That was scrappy and average. Wouldn't let Alisson's mistake take away from the fact that our defending was good against a quick, an surprisingly decent Leicester. That attack and midfield is going to have to buck up it's ideas though. Profligate, sloppy, unaware - gonna have to work hard to get up to the deadly levels of last season because that wasn't good enough. That said I was quite happy with our game management for most of the match. But at times that second half was bloody awful. Not good at all.
I'd like to say 'sign of champions - we play badly but still win'. Doesn't always work out that way though - 2002/2003 our results were brilliant at the start but our performances weren't. But eventually the results started reflecting our performances. No way am I saying that we're going to finish 5th or anything like that season but there comes a point where you have to start performing and that's what we're going to have to do with the likes of Spurs, Chelsea and City coming soon. Though I suppose similar to the rest of the league, our displays have been seriously impacted by the World Cup. The likes of Salah and Firmino so clearly under par compared to last season. Ironic thing that Mane and Firmino both scored and yet I struggle to think of a poorer attacking display by that trio.
Happy that Alisson's mistake didn't cost us in terms of points lost. Just needs to cut that out but he was another main reason why we won that with a world class save in the first half. A complete joke that the camera panned to Mignolet after that mistake - as if that f**king clown is the way to go. With Migs in goal we'd have lost or drawn at best today.
