You pay a signing on fee for pretty much any player, whether contracted or not. The only difference is the signing on fee for a Bosman tends to be higher as there's no transfer fee involved.

Anyway as Daniel Agger seems injured till the rest of the season, Skrtel is not match fit so we are left with Hyypia & Carragher so that really leaves us with little cover.. I reckon we should sign Garay as he'd also be one for the future! He is a fantastic defender for his young age, you can't go much wrong there! I think Sami Hyypia will be leaving come the end of the season, so four central defenders only makes sense!

I think Hobbs will be that 4th choice next season when Sami moves on. Hobbs, Carra, Agger and Skrtel, cant complain with that.

Jack Hobbs shouldn't be fourth choice. From what I have seen of him, there is no way he has the ability and quality of a fourth choice defender for a club looking to win the title.

He's not a bad player for his age, but he tends to 'hoof' the ball far too much. We need defenders who can calmly play their way out of trouble and Garay would be a good start!
