Our attack is looking impotent and I doubt that's down to the gaffer telling them to reign it in.
You say all our problems stem from letting Clyne go. I can’t quite see how our forwards and lack of goals at the moment is anything to do with him going. He has 1 goals and 2 assists in 4 years and we didn’t struggle for goals last season when he didn’t play at all apart from the odd minute.
All our problems stem from the fact we let Clyne go. It's not because Clyne was a fantastic player, but having a natural right back there rather than a 33 year old midfielder not just being played out of position, but being played in a position that requires more pace than his OAP legs can deliver is a problem, and it's not just a problem down the right flank, because of injuries to others in midfield we're moving someone out of the centre of the park who could help control the game better. The sale of Clyne has caused a cascade problem.
That 33 year old midfielder who has provided the same amount of assists in the last 3 games from RB as Clyne managed in 4 years.
Games with Milner at RB since Trent has been injured this season -
2-0 win vs Wolves
4-3 win vs Palace
1-1 draw with West Ham.
The first Palace goal Milner was caught by the pace of Zaha but only after Matip wasn’t paying attention, wasn’t in line with the defence and played Zaha onside. The red card wasn’t great but he had to take it because he was stitched up by Shaqiri’s bad pass and Bobby letting it run. But he also got an assist and we won the game.
West Ham goal today? Keita losing the ball cheaply, followed by Bobby losing the ball cheaply and then from a resulting free kick, Keita letting Antonio go free. Milner was no worse than any other player in the rest of the game, also got the assist for our goal.
Vs Leicester we had Hendo at RB and where did the goal they got come from? The left side, because Robbo gave away a cheap and needless free kick. Hendo actually had a solid game at RB
For all the goals we’ve conceded with Milly and Hendo at RB, it’s actually been the CB and LB areas that have been largely at fault. Our right side has produced more goals than if Clyne played there too.
I really don’t know how a problem can stem from binning off a payer that has previously played no part at all for the best part of 2 years. The problem hasn’t been letting Clyne go, it’s an easy excuse to make but one of our biggest problems has been the midfield and the attack. We’ve had Salah playing a different role to his record breaking season, we’ve had Bobby playing a different role to where he was so great last season and we have a jumbled midfield of purely work horses...why? Because we didn’t sign a number 10 in the summer. Blaming the departure of Clyne is the easy way out, but sooner or later, not getting a proper replacement for Coutinho was going to come back and bite us. All season, even with a fully fit squad the attack hasn’t flowed quite right and it was thanks to our rock solid defence we were hanging on for games, which if it hadn’t of been so solid, we wouldn’t be where we are now, that’s for sure.
Now that being said, I don't know why we're not playing Camacho. He's either good enough or he isn't, and if he is, he should be starting until Trent is back.
This I completely agree with. Camacho I think needs to be given his chance, he performed well enough there vs Wolves and he’s about the age Trent was when Klopp put full trust in him. Which makes me wonder why not with Camacho. Maybe. He isn’t good enough or maybe Klopp doesn’t trust an 18yr old in a situation we are currently in and is going with what has worked in the past. But, for me I think it should have been Milly in midfield for Lallana and Camacho at the back.
But let me ask you this. If we're not going to play Camacho, would you rather Milner in Midfield and Fabinho at Right Back rather than the other way around it is presently.
I’d say how it is, Fab in midfield and Milly at RB. Firstly because the goals we’ve conceded haven’t actually been he fault of our RB situation. Secondly because I think Fab works so well with Hendo and Gini in the midfield. I think moving Fab would be a greater deficit than sticking with Milly at RB.
I’m still massively frustrated at the last couple of results, I said the other day one of the things I hate most is not winning after we’ve taken the lead, so apologies if I’ve interpreted your post the wrong way mate.
