City look stronger this year again. 120 million spent on 2 signings. Adding real quality to squad already full of quality.
Not signings they needed, but doing them regardless.
Not signings they needed? Fernandinho is 33 years old. Gundogan is decent, but he's not all that playing as the deepest lying midfielder, certainly not against top 6 teams and Rodri has looked pretty average so far (obviously getting used to the pace of the BPL). They needed that signing pretty badly.
Then they got Cancelo, who can't really play both full-back positions and traded Danilo for him who could to a certain extent. They also lost Delph who could cover at LB and are still playing a midfielder at LB who got run ragged by Salah in the community shield.
Then they lost Kompany and only have three senior CB's: Laporte who is great, Stones who is average and a liability and Otamendi who is also a liability. If they lose Laporte for an extended period of time, they are down to playing a CB duo of Stones and Otamendi with Walker and Zinchenko as full backs and only Fernandinho being able to cover at CB too.
They may have plenty of options up front, but with Sane gone for 6-7 months that's not looking as good either.
Their defence still is a huge weakness. If only teams would attack them a bit more.
