Reality check of a week in the Premier League.

My gut thought this was a top four side before the season started and not a title challenging one and sadly it’s looking like that’s coming to fruition. Scoring 7 goals against Brentford, Brighton and West Ham and ending up with just two points is criminal for a side wanting to win the title.

Focus has to be how to make us harder to score against. Just too easy at the moment and I think bar Norwich all the teams will be thinking they can get a goal or two and some job against us.

This is on Klopp. Wonderful manager, but stubborn at times. He doesn't have the MF to play his style. Incapable of adapting. Needed to acrew as many points before AFCON, and were doing the opposite.

Couple of good balls in by Trent at the end but they weren’t easy chances. We didn’t really deserve a point. This is a tough one to swallow, especially after dropping points against Brighton.

We’re not looking like potential champions right now, but there’s still plenty of time left to change things. I expect us to smash Arsenal as usual, but we need to do better against these mid-tier type teams, although I do have to admit that West Ham are a solid side right now.

Not our finest day by a long stretch.

No real control in midfield, poor at the back and not even our usual selves up front.

Chamberlain sucked me in again after the midweek game but I think I'll not make that mistake again.

Robertson's poor run of form continues as well which is a worry. Although we have a player banging the door down to take his place so not sure why he's being kept on there.

Tough side to play this season and they'll best a fair few teams at home but we really need to sort out these niggling issues against teams like this if we've any hope of winning the title

The issue is not necessarily their individual quality, it’s what they offer and how they function as a unit.

It’s also not just about “We should have bought another midfielder”. We lost a lot of solidity in midfield with Wijnaldum. Massively underrated but the lad was instrumental in how we defended and how our midfield functioned. As good as Keita and Thiago are, neither offer anywhere near what Wijnaldum offered.

You only know what you have when it’s gone?

If we offered Gini what he was worth & what he bought to the team then he would be starting today..

But some try to spin it as a greedy player who moved for the money only…

      Anyway…

anyone who thinks West Ham are a good side, seriously.

      They are though.

They've been consistently good for over 12 months now.

Idk what’s happened to us, but we look so open and vulnerable. Suddenly conceding goals all over the place.

Firstly we’ll done West Ham, they completely outfoxed us. Their first goal shouldn’t have stood, but the third was fair enough. Why the hell didn’t we put someone between Allison and Antonio. Mane showed today the difference between himself and Salah. Excellent player, great touch, great work ethic, just not a killer. Missed opportunity today, hope it doesn’t come back to bite us…

I’m convinced that it has a negative impact on the players the way he has been bigging the opposition up before games. He done it a lot before Brentford and Brighton and he was at it again before this game.

Yes it should, there was nothing wrong with it. Alisson was weak and didn’t take command.

We lost that defensively today imho, thought Alisson was poor for their first 2 goals, and we gave them a free header for the 3rd. Two fecking corner kicks, not good enough.
Thiago made a difference when he came on, few sloppy passes but then improved and was always looking to go forward and play a positive ball. AOC a bit of a passenger.
Origi too made a difference when he came on, gives a bit more physically in the box and can finish.  Taki, bit lightweight again.
Mane missed a good chance in the first half, and in the 2nd.

Disappointing, WH are a strong team, but we've the better players/technically a better side, but they made us pay, bit like Brentford, with some direct, aggressive play.

More ground lost. But long way to go.

Need to be in for a few of their top players. Would love to have Rice and Bowen. Rice is the real deal. Perfect Hendo replacement

Nah not particularly good but their strengths play directly i to our weakness.

Sadly for us half the prem can do what west ham did  and it works.

Before the game I said we need to be strong focused and concentrated at the back and clinical upfront .... as per ... wasteful upfront and hopeless at the back.

We arnt winning the league  ... we arnt good enough. The underinvestment in the squad is there for all to see. The folly of letting wijnaldum leave for free coming home just like last seasons folly of not buying a defender. Sheer stupidity.

Klopp doesn't want to play the likes of origi and minamino. At Brentford robbo was shocking and klopp did nothing ... same today though he could have subbed them all.

And when mane and salah come back from the afcon the way its going I  doubt we will be in the top 4 ... struggling for top 6. The cracks were there ... they have been ignored and we are paying a heavy price.

Absolutely. Happens to the best of them. I remember Reina, in his absolute prime for us, having a nightmare at Everton in 2006. Alisson's display somewhat similar.

Hard to disagree, based on form right now Kostas makes better use of the ball going forward, and when we have the majority of possession, that makes a difference
