That's probably because of the stiff TV adaptations. She was a great writer, the best comic novels in English in my opinion. They are difficult though, and you have to pay close attention.
Have to correct you there Isaac mate, best comic novels, nah, try Tom Sharpe, now I’m talking sore ribs and tears funny, especially Riotous Assembly and indecent exposure one’s a follow up of the other can’t remember which way round, but I’m telling you funny as f***in funny, he also did the Wilt series, the antic’s of a certain Henry Wilt, again brilliantly funny, give them a try and then compare Miss Austen to Mr Sharpe ?
Tell you wasn’t funny was that joke of a fookin Ref Tierney, we don’t know yet but his ineptitude could already have cost us the league title, assuming both us and city go toe to toe and we beat them next time round we would lose by a single point again, not one for looking negatively but fine margins can create insurmountable gaps, I would hate to think officialdom would rob us of no 20, rather than our own volition!!
