Frustrating half. Spineless but well drilled Villarreal team just wasting time and packing it in. Don't have the balls to play football.

They play football, they get smashed 4-0.

Would be madness for them to not play to their strengths.

Frustrating but entirely expected half. BTs coverage is absolutely hilarious. They seem shocked it’s gone like this, when everyone on the planet expected it to be like this

It's the kind of games for which I regret they removed the away goal rule. Villarreal has no incentive to try and score a goal. They are more than happy to just sit back and wait for their home game...

Mo has to hold his position out wide. Also shifting it as slowly as we did in first half V Everton. It will be more of the same second half but to have a chance we need to play the odd speculative ball, giving them less time to defend.

Keep plugging away breakthrough will comes, one of those balls punched by the keeper will fall to us or we will get final ball right. Unlike Everton game this one we look threatening just have not found the goal.

Walt, he does my f***in brick in, him and that tw*t of a commentator, every f***in European night when them pair of cnuts are in the comms box they alway praise the opposition, it’s all Villarreal defending well, or fair play to them they’ve handled Liverpool well, F**k of wankers, what about praising Liverpool for our incessant attacking, and completely controlling the game,

Ffs, we have f***in Carra on Sky and we have squeaky bollocks on BT, both detrimental  to how we play or bigging up the oppo, F**k off with that sh*t !!

      Yep.

It's sh*te to watch but Emery isn't paid to play pretty football especially on their budget.

Away leg will suit us more probably when they hopefully will open up a bit more. Still fancy us to get at least a goal lead just need patience and not let emotions get better of us

What a surprise. Another game refereed by an absolute weapon

Farmers ref for sure. Acting like the big man but performing like a simpleton. Bizarre that UEFA would choose someone like that to referee a game of this calibre.

Overall though you just have to say that Villareal have played a fantastic first half. They've done well to get round our press with some confident passing round the back. Great defensive tactics by Emery. They always carry a threat as well - they do a nice quick ball up from time to time though we've done well on the couple of defensive occasions we've faced. That said, maybe we can take a few more pot shots at the keeper? There's a question mark there for them. Oddly maybe there's also a role for Origi here. Don't want to sound like an English dinosaur but sometimes the long ball and a live wire in the box like Origi is what you need in these type of games when the opponent is going deeper and deeper and deeper.

Don't think we've done anything wrong - yeah we could pick up the tempo a bit more but at the same time we have to be measured and realise we're playing the whole 90 - not trying to win it in the first half hour. No point in busting a gut and killing yourself 30 minutes in with nothing to show for it. This tie is played over 180 minutes (and more possibly).

Crowd have been excellent. Well in red men and women.

They'll only open up second leg if we go there with a lead. 0-0 and expect the same again next week as they hope for a counter or to win it on pens.

Organised, well drilled game plan but we are giving them time to defend.3/4 passes sometimes before it get in a dangerous position.

Can see how they've got this far.  Very well organised.  Thought we played very well - looked a clear gulf in the quality of the sides but if you can defend, you've always got a chance as we know from the campaign to Istanbul.

Indeed. For all the snearing they are playing as we used to play ourselves.

They are doing their jobs and making it hard for us to do ours.

Could be Origi time from 65 mins again. Someone who can hold it up in the box and bring others into  it like he did against the toffees.

Could easily sacrifice Hendo and bring Jota on. Games going like this, do we really need a trio of Hendo, Thiago and Fab on the pitch? Thiago and Fab would be more than enough IMO.

On the other hand, the no away goal rule allows us to take more chances because if they score it's not as critical as if they did when the away goal rule was there. The away goal rule favored teams like Villarreal who could sit back all game long and hoped to sucker punch you on a counter and get that all important away goal.
