There are a lot of polarized opinions on this thread. It was a bad time to put the club up for sale, from a social media perspective, no games to talk about. Only alternatives are the world cup, which has not even started yet and the f**kin Tories ruining the country.
I think we are unlikely to be bought 100% by a benevolent billionaire, a scouse Mathew Harding, Steve Gibson or "union" Jack Walker. The club is just to expensive now, to big, those days are probably gone.
My preference would be that FSG sells a share or the club to raise some cash for investment, similar to the Redbird investment. I think they have been reasonably competent owners with some significant errors during their ownership.
If they sell the club we will probably have 2 options-
1 A group similar to FSG who specialise in owning sports clubs. We can only hope they are better at managing the club than FSG. They may set aside some money for player investment (the new Chelsea owners are reported to have allocated over £1billion over 10 years) but at some point that money will end and the club would need to be self sustaining.
2 Rich individuals/governments with lots of cash probably from the middle east. This is not my preference and if it happens I will probably start to lose interest in the club and focus on another team. It's not possible to throw away 30+ years of emotional attachment overnight but I'll gradually reduce the number of games I watch and do something else with my time.
I think that there is some racism and hippocracy when we talk about the rich Arab countries but they do have very dodgy governments. I know the UK has done lots of horrible stuff over the last 100s of years and still does but I see very little evidence that the oil rich countries are trying to change their society.
I'd also like to highlight global warming. We are all responsible for this, western people especially, but I don't think I can support a club funded by selling oil and gas.
Also, if the world is going to survive we need to stop using oil and gas very quickly. Maybe in 10-15 years the middle east countries will not be as rich as they are now.
