This incident warrants investigation. To me this is as bad or worse than the offside call at Spurs, as that had an element of judgement....or more accurately mis-judgement. It is obvious from the footage that no foul was called....now that may have been a mistake (It wasn't) and the ref forgot to blow the whistle....yet the footage makes it clear the ref waves for the keeper to get on with the game, so he can't now claim he thought it was a foul. Once the ball is thrown down, that ball is now in play and Gakpo was right to chase it down (he should have put it in the net regardless of the late whistle.)....Taylor then goes into full panic mode, confused as to whether he'd awarded a free kick or not. Once he gets to the keeper is where this gets truly bizarre...the ref tells the keeper to sit down and then calls for medics to come on. This is clearly done in an effort to disguise his error....change the narrative from a reckless refereeing f*ck up, into a concern for the injured keeper. We are not stupid, we have eyes, we have seen it clear as day....this was a monumental calamity from Taylor.
I'm surprised there wasn't more made of it post game....Did JK even mention it?...There needs to be an official explanation, as the silence from the PGMOL is deafening. I've never supported the conspiracy theory (and still don't)...but this can't go unanswered.

Think the Boss has had his fill of refereeing in the Premier League. Still the club should lodge an official complaint.Obviously all we'll get is some half head BS about miscommunication. Boss looked completely pissed off in his post match press conflab. Never seen him so down.

The biggest issue of all of this isn’t Taylor’s first mistake of stopping Gakpo scoring, the worst (and corrupt) part of all of this is Taylor intentionally trying to cover up what he knew was a blatant mistake. So instead of him owning up to what he did, he tried to create a false narrative to absolve himself or prepare himself to be absolved of his massive cock up.

      It's always against us isn't it...F***ing stinks.
I genuinely don't know if it's corrupt or not ,I'm 50/50....it's definitely possible for refs especially VAR to influence a result.
I just want consistency you see some pens given some not for same thing, red cards given that sometimes otherwise don't even get a free kick.
It's bollocks and there's way too much at stake to get so wrong or so inconsistent.

If we got less than half the decisions we should have, we'd be top of the league. That's how fine the margins are in football. And quite frankly its ridiculous. I get why Klopp is tired. I'M TIRED!

It just feels like it's always against us, but it isn't. Spurs should have had a pen (If given it wouldn't have been overturned) just before Arsenal scored their second today....That not only would have changed the dynamics of that game, but the dynamics at the top of the table. No doubt we've had more than our fair share of bad calls, and for me yesterday's was as bad or worse than most, but VAR wasn't involved in yesterday's f*ck up, yet your broader point stands, VAR is, and will always be inconsistent. It's hard enough with one referee....having two (which is what VAR is), just makes getting the right call harder.

Can imagine the cu*ts in the bar later , hey Anthony that was a bit of a howler , yea boys but you see me get around it with that bit of bullshit and calling the medic on   , once again LFC is at the centre of a refereeing fck up it can’t all be coincidence surely it’s happened too many times this season .

That incident is exactly why ref interviews after the game are needed, and not interviews a few hours/days later... on the pitch or in the tunnels like the players and managers have to do, would have loved to see him talk his way out of that one... there would be more sweat on his brow from the interview than the actual game.

The Club should demand an official explanation. There is filmed evidence that the ref called for the game to carry on, that means there can't be any mis-communication defence....He can't now say "I thought I'd given a free kick" because he signalled (a couple of times) clearly and unambiguously for the keeper to get on with the game. Gakpo's charge panicked him and he mistakenly blew up....he then realised his mistake and tried to cover it up. And just like Watergate in the 70's and Trump now, the cover up is the real crime.

I'm absolutely livid the players just passively accepted it at the time, and why the club didn't demand an explanation is beyond me.

Perhaps if the players had a bit more about them they'd have been in his face demanding an answer...Not that it would have got anywhere because Gakpo didn't stick it in the net like he should have done....then at least the referee might (unlikely) have admitted his error and awarded the goal....Once no goal was scored there was literally no other way to proceed.

Agree, although with these refs nowadays I woudn't be surprised if he feared getting a card for kicking it in the net.

That’s why we shave to practice the dark side of the game we so nice Gakpo didn’t even try to score. You wouldn’t see United not scoring there and surrounding the ref

"Corner taken quickly" happens in England, and they're disallowing that goal.

They act like school teachers and not football refs.

I think you have nailed it mate, had Gakpo indeed slotted it into the net Taylor would have had a major problem, and because Gakpo didn’t it gave Taylor the impetus to invent his ridiculous notion that the keeper was injured, the keeper took a heavy bump but obviously not enough for him to need treatment, so we carry on with play,

he threw the ball in order to take a goal kick, the ball is now live, but overthrew it and that gave Gakpo the opportunity to smash it into the net, in that micro second Taylor blew his whistle but was unsure himself what actually happened,

he assumed the keeper was injured but yet allowed the ball to become live, and because Gakpo didn’t smash it into the net, Taylor grabbed this opportunity to call it the way did, and got himself out of the sh*te, a crazy bizarre incident where Gakpo had he scored would probably resulted in a VAR decision and we all know well we have been treated with those this season, cough cough, and of course we’d be witness to yet another PGMOL F**k up and one ref scratching another’s back !!

It's even worse than you describe it, the devil's in the detail. The ball never went out of play, so it could never have been a goal kick...therefore if no foul was called, which it wasn't, then once the keeper threw the ball down, it was live (Think Karius 2018)...in fact the ball was always live, which is why Gakpo instinctively went for it. The mistake happens when Taylor blows the whistle and Gakpo stops....THAT is when he realises his mistake....quickly inventing the injury as a means to obfuscate. At no point did the keeper make it clear to anyone that he was in need of attention...it was a fantasy invented by Taylor as a get out of jail card. This matter needs to be addressed by the officials.

Actually watched it today and couldn’t believe how the ref tried to cover his mistake 😂 it was rather embarrassing to the eye. 🤦‍♂️ There needs to be a big redress  with PGMOL during the close season, no holidays for the refs and get hehind the school desk for re training. Talking about the howlers with refs rather than the football after every match is now the main talking points throughout the premier league. It’s just not acceptable.

No mistake from anthony wythenshawe taylor. Just another instance of him costing us big time. This manc has cost us titles ... overseen most of klopps defeats along with his fellow mancunian tierney yet we cant escape him. I wonder why merseysides rob jones doesnt ref our games or cheatys. Maybe hes a marine fan.

Corrupt. All.Fcuking.Day. And its in plain sight. But nobody wants to comprehend it.

Liverpool should request that the manchester gang are kept away from us next season. And away from cheatys matches as well to preserve what little integrity this circus has left.

Areola mistakenly thought he had been awarded a free kick and threw/rolled the ball to give it a punt up field. But Taylor did not whistle for any free kick, nor did he signal that he recognised a foul had been committed and waved play the 'advantage'.

So in effect the ball was in play when Areola rolled it out. Most think it was Taylors fault but it was actually Areola who screwed up. Taylor just came to his rescue....unlawfully.

To cover up the fact that he prevented Cody from scoring, Taylor called on the physio. PGMOL won't take any action. Unfortunately the Salah row overshadowed Taylorgate.

As the teams were coming off Klopp had a little jokey pop ay Areola, probably said something like .."Ref saved you there"..

I'm still flabbergasted that this incident didn't cause more of a storm...not that it makes a difference now...but if the club doesn't demand an explanation then that just let's the ref off the hook..and therefore free to carry on making monumental mistakes.
