We haven't had a new topic in here for a while I don't think and this evening a performance just popped into my head that got my thinking.
What would you class as an actors career defining performance?
That one role that they nail, or shows their range, ability and them at the height of their craft. I'm sure maybe some have more then one but I'd say most have that one performance that stands up above the others and sticks in the memory.
The one that popped into my head was Edward Norton in American History X.
I always think about this from time to time. A very powerful movie and Norton had it all in this. The menace and physicality as the skinhead Neo Nazi but you also seen the softer side when he was out ift prison trying to reform and keep his brother out of trouble. The flashbacks showed him earlier in some scenes as 'younger' and developing this racist ideals and again Norton showed another side to this character as the vulnerable teenager getting influenced.
He's a fantastic actor anyway and has some great roles over the years but for me this always stands out as him at his peak.
