Glad to have him back, at least for pre-season. He's such a big leader in the dressing room and his communication at the back has been missed.

Okay, snap poll.  Assuming Pepe stays this season (big if, I know, but just go with it)---

Who do you want starting against Saints?  Your choices:

      A) Mignolet
      B) Pepe

      go.

If we really want to improve our squad, he'd do it. Hell we wouldn't need a defense....guy is a monster.

Hope so! Migs and Pepe is a much better sight than Migs and Jones!

Absolutely. Would definitely feel a lot more secure about our defense if we had options - especially with a longer season ahead of us.

As for the snap poll I agree with everyone else, has to be Mignolet. He's our current number 1 in the back and needs to be shown the faith. But it would be great to have the option of Pepe, especially if Mig goes out of form.

And his leadership and guidance to the backline (which was sorely missed last season from all except when the rare Kolo sighting occurred IMO) is on a similar level to Stevie's command of the midfield and attack. Really hope that he's willing to serve as a mentor to Mignolet as well and not just flat out competition.

Personally I'd go with Pepe, I know he did dip with us but at least he doesn't look like a nervous wreck like Migs when he plays.

I'd go with Mignolet, he's younger and I feel Reina has slowly gotten worse over the last 3 years. Not to say he isn't already a decent goalkeeper.

I think Mignolet is only going to improve. If only you could combine two goalkeeper eh; Mignolet the shot stopper with Reina's distribution.

I'd be truly amazed if Pepe plays one minute of football for us come the start of the season so for that reason the question posed earlier is a bit of a non question for me.

Mignolet will be our starting keeper come August 17th.

Thanks, pops for the suggestion, I wlll stand by for one of your 10k word essays.

Those always fill my days up with joy.

      , in the wrong place?

You don't have to read them.. I know I don't read most of yours.. However if you did you may understand the game a little bit more than you currently do

I've actually missed those 10k word essays AZ talks about Jon mate. ;D

We'll have to get stuck back into the tactics thread properly once the season gets under way.

Nothing to do with me mate and I'm not getting involved.

You just reminded me that I've missed reading some of PD's words of wisdom on all things football.

Pepe, as much as I loved the fella has no future under Brendan.. He won't be here in September

I'm amazed that people think he will be here and we will have him and Mig 'competing' for the No 1 jersey.

Not gonna happen mate.. This is a footballing political game.. Napoli, his agent, Pepe, Brendan are all playing it

This is what happens when you give long term high wage deals

Don't know  Jon, Fed asked a question.

      7KK7 answered..Swab answered...YNWA answered.

      some wanted migs..some wanted Pepe.

I merely said that if he did stay and it was me I would have a real competition.

No mention of you just saying I would have them fight it out for the spot but evidently that was a bullocks answer to a hypothetical question.

      Guess I will never learn.

      Guess not

Too late too now I'd guess

      That's what I see happening

      We want 5 million

He wants the 110 k he gets here

They get him for nothing, give him that 5 million as a signing on fee and can save 30-40k a week on his contract

In my opinion, Reina is a much better keeper than Mignolet. And if it was a straight choice as to who I'd rather see in our goal next year, I'd go for the fella with the baldy head any day.

However, he doesn't wanna be here by all accounts - despite his proclaimed "love" for the club - so he can F**k off with anybody else who doesn't wanna be here. While Mignolet may struggle when the ball is in the air and he has to catch it or when the ball is at his feet and he has to find a team mate, he wants to be here (at least for the time being, no doubt he'll wanna F**k off in a couple of years when we finally do get a better keeper) and that's enough for me.

I wish any difference could be sorted out and if it meant Pepe had to be the bigger man then I wish he would be. We would be a much stronger squad with two top keepers in it. He is also the best celebrator of a goal since Arbeloa.
