      Wenger: Don't Write Off Liverpool

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has not written off Liverpool's title challenge just yet.

Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic last weekend left them 12 points behind Barclays Premier League leaders Arsenal and outside of the Champions League places.

To make matters worse for Anfield manager Rafael Benitez, his side still have to travel to Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

But Wenger knows from personal experience that Liverpool cannot be discounted with half the season remaining. In 1997-98, Arsenal came from 13 points off the pace to win the title.

And Wenger said: "I wouldn't say it is completely (a three-horse race). I still feel Liverpool are in the race but they cannot have any blips anymore.

"They are still a dangerous team. The disadvantage for them is that there are three teams in front of them (Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea) who might not drop many points.

"I still don't dismiss them at this stage. It happened to us in 1997-98 and we made the ground up."

Mind games I tells ya! None the less though it is interesting, I sure as hell don't remember a comeback like that. Maybe it's not over!

      C'mon the Reds!

Which it will, Wenger has restored my faith (which was only absent for 6.9 seconds)!

I might have read that thread and something got stuck in the back of my head, but I swear I don't remember doing do? :D

I think it may be mind games but in the same breath is it just Wenger proving that he has balls to admit we can still catch them if they start F***ing up?

With the  pressure of starting well and needing to follow it through for the rest of the season, where the smallest of mistakes will see them drop into the paths of Manu and Chelsea.

Arsenal went the entire 2003/4 Premiership season unbeaten. This an all time record. It might have been 50 games apart from a dodgy Ferdinand last man tackle and some questionable reffing! So far so good (for them!  ::) )
I have been offered a ticket to see Arsenal at the Emirates v Birmingham on the 12th. We have Middlesborough away on the same day. I went to Highbury 3 games before they closed the old stadium. I got to see Henry and Bergkamp play as they beat WBA 3-0.

It will cost me £33 and for the experience I think I should go. I will go as a neutral but would hope Birmingham could do us a favour and beat them! I am a football fan when all's said and done and have wanted to see inside the stadium since I saw it's construction as I used to work in Kings Cross. I can then compare the experience to the New Anfield - I felt the experience was similar at Anfield and Highbury as the had similar sized pitches and stadias.

P.S. If anyone can get me a ticket to see Liverpool play, home or away tell me, my Dad lives 2 doors away from the Head Groundsman at Anfield (who is a Blue  :o ???) and he can't get any spare tickets!

The league is much stronger now than then. That wont be repeated for quite some time. And i think another team achieved this ages ago. Not sure though.

Arsenal started with an 12 match unbeaten run.

Then towards the end of October this started to happen.

English Premier    C Palace    0-0    Arsenal    18-10-1997 DRAW
English Premier    Arsenal    0-0    Aston Villa    26-10-1997 DRAW
English Premier    Derby            3-0    Arsenal    01-11-1997 LOSE
English Premier    Arsenal    3-2    Man Utd    09-11-1997 WIN
English League Cup   Arsenal         1-0    Coventry    18-11-1997 WIN

English FA Cup    Arsenal    0-0    Port Vale    03-01-1998 DRAW

By this point Arsenal were 13 points away from the leaders.

Interesting that they got a draw in the FA Cup 3rd round.

End result - they didn't sack Wenger and Arsenal went on to win the Premiership and FA Cup double.

      Bear it in mind.
