A 50 run partnership between 9 & 10 and we've allowed them to milk singles and hit the bad ball. Field has been spread too much throughout this innings and this partnership in particular.

Maiden from Robinson. But it's taken them to be one hit away for us to actually enforce the proper short-pitched stuff.

      Another over just short-pitched bowling.

      Lyon gets a single.

      4 needed.

Cummins gets a single from the final ball.

      3 runs needed.

I make that Bazball 0 Test Cricket 1 with 4 to play.

England need to find themselves a spinner long term to play the way they do. Day 5 and nobody to turn to but the medium fast bowlers and Root. In the mean time we can save ourselves some runs by putting a specialist wicket keeper into the side and batting until the opposition bowls us out.

Great test match..great win by Aussies. Poor captaincy by Stokes. 3 Decisions..over bowling Root..delay in taking new ball..not bowling tight length and line. After 2 luckyish wickets with 8 down those 3 poor decision put them in a win win situation.

Taking 14 off Root gave them the impetus to go for it.

Stokes is a great player & captain but, and a lot of captains go through this, he is a bit of a destiny captain..'I'll make it happen' mentality. It will only happen if you think it through correctly and he didn't do that. You don't beat Australia if you give them a chance to go for it...they will and more often than not they will win.

It's a roller coaster ride really isn't it but that's 2 of the last 2 test matches where we have let a team who we have outplayed win the match basically because we've decided to make the game fun.

The third innings in particular was neither here nor there. The amount of overs we used up and score we got meant there was never any pressure on Australia to do anything other than bat time and automatically win the game if they did. The shot by Root on 46 was just outrageous and obviously that's the way he's being told to play.

Does have to be some strategy behind it!!

Yes entertainment is important but winning is still the pinnacle. From tea England bowled like it was the Ist Innings. Coming into the death, on the back 9 so to speak you can't give the opposition an inch. Couple of decisions took the pressure off them.

Still 4 test to go. No room for Boycott these days that's for sure.

I mean it was unfair a little bit to put Root in the oven. Even Ali isn't a full time world class spinner. So to put Root in there wasn't the best decision. He can produce wicket taking balls but his accuracy doesn't warrant bowling at the death. Ali was injured yes but it might've been better to bowl Broad,Robbo, Jimmy and himself. Bowl it tight.Small things sometimes make a big difference.

Harry Brook could be England's big player and I'll be watching him closely.

It doesn't get better than that, sport at the very highest level...It was like Marvin Hagler and Sugar Ray Leonard back in the day...you could argue neither team deserved to lose it. For me, out of the many what if's, Joe Root's dance down the pitch which had him stumped was a pivotal moment....On a benign pitch he should have gone on to a 100+. There again you've got to credit the Aussies for chasing down that target.
Lords up next...It'll be another cracker.

It was a great match but ā€¦.

      We should have won that

      A lot do questions

The initial choice of the team

No wood , and no red ball spinner

      No real WK

      And then the declaration

      Really disappointed

Could say if we had that extra 30 odd runs but we had enough to win it. Loose captaincy and sloppy bowling give them a window. Came down to a one innings match and we should've finished them off. Just didn't have that final killer touch, to put them to the sword. Yes a fit Wood with his pace might've blasted those last two out.

One day cricket looms over the test match arena now. No more bore draws, good thing really. White ball cricket saved the game  and now it's influence is felt in the purest form of the game.

      Get the fuckkkkk innnnnn  :D

Thought it was a sensational Test, made sensational By Stokes' Captaincy.

Ballsy declaration, yeah it cost you in the end but f**k the cricket was sensational, and that's all down to Stokes and his declaration, his attacking nature and his field placements. But Knowing you lot and your Press, you will all be vilifying him, ripping into him, name splashed across all the back pages with some sh*t house derogatory Headlines, like you guys always do!

Honestly thought Pat Cummins was out captained all game but in the end, it's weird and funny, that OUR Captain won us the game!

All this does is set it up for another cracking Ashes series. Test Cricket doesn't get any better then this.

Mate, I honestly thought we gave you guys over both innings, an extra 100 runs with our poor fielding placements.

Was gutted when there was no pressure at all put on an incoming batsmen, allowing them to get off the mark with an easy single, is criminal in my eyes.

At lunch 5-183 thought we were done and was fkn miserable and I haven't even watched or been invested in any form of cricket for a couple of years now, but this series always gets the juices flowing and Billy aka DLS always brings out the mongrel in me.  :D

Go F**k yourself with a can of fosters you Crocodile Dundee wannabe (though in all honesty you are one of my fave posters as you know)

In reality mate, I think we lost this Test because we made too many mistakes in all three basic disciplines of the sport.

With the bat, other than Root, nobody kicked on in the first innings to make that big telling score the way Khawaja did for yous. And in both innings we kept giving cheap wickets away.

With the ball, we were poor as a unit throughout. But it doesnā€™t help when sixty percent of your attack is carrying an injury. Even Robinson has been struggling before the Test with his ankle. And how the F**k our second choice spinner for the national team can be a lad who hasnā€™t played red ball cricket for nearly 2 years is beyond me. Iā€™m not getting into the debate of too much limited over game to the detriment of how much first class four day county games we play but something needs to be done because surely thereā€™s a spinner out there who can replace Leach that isnā€™t retired from red ball cricket.

And in the field we missed too many chances, which I think, more than the early declaration in the first innings, is what cost us. If we take our chances then we win. And itā€™s not all down to the keeper, though he was at fault for a fair few.

Your lot started the Test negatively when the result was so far away from being decided, the closer to the crunch it got the more and more we went into our shells. How the F**k we can be bowling at numbers 9 & 10 with a new ball and only have one or two people in catching positions is beyond me. And throughout that final day, we were just happy to give away cheap runs. We never looked like we were trying to get the batsmen out but rather just hope they gave their wicket away.

Needing over 50 runs to win when Lyon got to the crease should have been the time we attacked but we were still happy to concede easy runs.

I think ā€œBazballā€ works well when weā€™re chasing a big score because we can just go out and slog it. But when weā€™re the ones defending a total, it looks like weā€™re unsure of what to do.

But anyways, onto Lordā€™s. Level the series up there and send Merv, Swampy and all the Fanatics back down under with their tails firmly between their legs.

Gutted last night. New day today.

Cummins played well. But we beat ourselves to be honest.

The stupid 1st day declaration robbed us of at least 50 if not more runs.

Time for foakes to come in. They obviously don't consider bairstow as one of the top 6 so you're basically preferring bairstow to foakes who is considered the best keeper in the world. Foakes is just as good with the bat if not better than Carey. With foakes in we'd have won in my opinion. Jonny just too many mistakes at this level.

The 2nd innings compounded the farce of how the first ended. Root looked supreme and set for a match winning hundred 2nd innings and then he just throws it away with a Sunday league slog. That's not Joe's game. Too many just gave it away ... you can't do that against the aussies

England need to get back to basics. Get your runs first innings ... stop trying to be clever. Pick the best 6 batters, best keeper and best 4 bowlers.

Attack the aussie bowlers ... but let guys like Root , who is the glue just bat normally and let the rest play round him.

I thought we bowled well. Maybe look at leaving Ali out and playing another quick. Root maybe for spin.

We can win from here ... but I sense the aussies belief will now be through the roof.

      Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu uck!

Proper nail biting stuff at the end and fair play to Cummins and Lyons, thought they hung on brilliantly.

I donā€™t think we should change our tactics at all as struggle mainly playing more conservative.

Couple of player changes and keep F***ing going for it 👊🏼
