if it went to penalties with man u in the final id go with:

      1 torres

      2 alonso

      3 kuyt

      4 reina (would be funny)

5 gerrard to seal it then kiss his badge and scream his head off

You've got to be taking the piss. I'd be other things than amused, if Pepe was stepping up for our fourth in the European Cup Final!  ;)

Hate penalties settling games they're a lottery but until someone comes up with a better idea we are stuck with them so with the present team I would start with...1,   Kuyt (who's dependable and keeps his head) 2, Ryan Babel at two (has a good shot and can hit the ball) 3, Alonso (No 3 is usually where the pressure starts) .4/5 Nando and Stevie G would take the 4th and 5th spot with it all depending on the situation at the time. This is one outcome that could arise but we all know pen.kicks to win the match can go 101 ways so I suppose you pick you best 5 and stick with some sort of plan and this has been mine......

You can juggle it a different way it all depends on how a penalty shoot out progresses....

      I'd go for

      1. Stevie G - 1st choice no doubts
      2. Fernando Torres  - missed in pre-season vs Pompey but has to be there, quality will shine through
      3. Xabi Alonso - great technique, regularly slots away pressure penalties
      4. Yossi Benayoun - again missed at Pompey but one i would trust to slot it away
      5. Dirk Kuyt - rarely phased by pressure and has a knack for crucial goals

Babel for my does not have the confidence but will be one for the future.

Need David Villa to be up there, Sort it out Rafa

      1. Gerrard - Only seen him miss once
      2. Torres - Pen Taker for Atletico. Slotted em' away nicely
      3. Alonso - Can pick his spot nicely
      4. Carragher - Love his run up
      5. Mascherano - Can imagine him to try cheeky ones

      Gerrard
      Torres
      Carra
      Mascherano
      Kuyt

But I would have to have carra and mascherano practicing hitting the back of the net for a week or so before hand. Chances are they have both forgotten where it is. But no doubting the two would have the guts and mental stuff for a high pressure kick. And lets be honest, a penalty shoot out is 90% mental ability, and only 10% skill.

Next time you see a penalty being taken, look at the penalty takers face before he kicks it. You can almost always tell from the way hes looking if hes going to score or not. If hes looking nervous our scared hes going to miss. If hes looking confident, hes going to score.

Anyone who has picked someone to go last because they would like to see them score the winner has forgotten one thing. Pepe will have saved a few of the oppositions penalties so whoever is picked last probably won't have to take one ;)
