      Jermaine Pennant at the derby
      Oct 01, 2008 11:41:28 pm
      Hi everyone
this is my first topic on this forum, I have been posting like crazy in order to obtain the privilege to do so (sorry if you deem it a silly topic but I had to ask someone)
      Anyway
Was anybody else sitting with the blueshite fans for this game? I was in the family enclosure near the park end. Anybody else sitting near there?
I was right by all the substitutes who were warming up and a few blueshite fans were giving abuse to Pennant.
One guy behind me kept shouting " Sit back down Pennant you're not getting on the f*cking pitch you're sh*t!"
Pennant just kept smiling and laughing, trying to ignore it but after a while the guy shouted it again and pennant just looked at him and started shouting,
"I,m rich :D  I,m rich :D " and jogged off grinning to himself. All the blueshite fans shut up but I just couldn't help but laugh :lmao:

To be honest - that kind of response proves he is a pr**k more than anything.

If you're a professional you've got to take that kind of abuse and not react.

That kind of comment from Jermaine just makes me think he is a tit, sorry fella.

True but Pennant probably didn't want to come to that. He probably wanted to play more than anything. Anyway, gobshites like that Everton fan needed it given back to him :D

Don't get me wrong JD I would get called all the names under the sun for whatever he gets paid -  even for doing what he loves
I wasn't laughing as if to say "oh what a legend".
I was laughing in shock as I couldn't believe he responded to one person shouting at him, thats all.
I,ve always thought Pennant might be a bit like that - just because he seems to be unhappy everywhere he goes and being in the media for the wrong reasons.
Also I just wanted to know if anybody else seen this
(Also sorry if i don't reply tonight I'm off to bed)

"whatever , am rich" sorta thing.... sounds like kewell all over again. He can be replaced easily , i for one would like to see the back of him.

Come on lads.. What do you expect from these guys.. ?
All I expect from them is to be loyal, respectfull and appreciative to their club and fans..
I don't expect them to be complete role models really, I just like to watch them play football. His reaction to me is normal. I'm trying to imagine myself with money in that same situation and err.. I'd probably say the same and run off chuckling..
Its like someone at work having a go and you eventually turning around and saying "F**k off you cock"..
Do you really expect working class millionaires who have just won the lottery to all of a sudden turn into a politician??
I'm no fool, i do understand that players can't act stupid in public all the time because it would be kaos but they are human.. I watch footballers for football not to father my kids..

While I have no problem with Pennant having a go at the bluenose I feel he would be better concentrating on his football and getting into the team. He is a lucky lad to have earned big money for playing football. It does remind me of Robbie Fowler sniffing the goal line though and if my memory is correct that was against Everton also. The best way to silence the Evertonians is to outclass them on the pitch like we did at the weekend and leave them to drown in their own sorrow.

      I have to disagree.

First, shutting the mouth of an Everton fan is always a plus in my book.

Second I think people misinterpreted his words. To me, it doesn't sound as if he said "I'm happy to be on the bench since I get rich by doing nothing". More like "Even if I were sh*t, then you are sitting on a chair, I'm sitting on a bench, the difference between us is that I get rich by doing the same as you pay money to be allowed to do. So who are you to insult me?".
Also, I think people a quite sensitive on the money issue. Why don't people slate Gerrard for being the highest paid player at the club? If he loves the club so much, why doesn't he help the club by asking for much less? Money is just part of the game, players try to earn for the rest of their lives, and honestly, you cant blame them. Many gave up education to focus on football. When their career is over, there are not very many options for them.

Third, not being played is not the fault of Pennant IMO. Still being at the club is not his fault either I think. He was bought in at the same time as Kuyt, who Rafa seems to favouring on the right wing. When he has been given a run of a few matches in the side, he has done well. He always seems to fight for his place, and never complains in the press about not getting matches. And that takes some kind of a man. Imagine how frustrating it must have been to be on the bench (or even not in the team) when Kuyt was in poor form, ineffective for the team, and the team desperately needed width, and he was the only out-and-out winger at the club.
At the last day of the transfer window there were stories that Rafa had given him an ultimatum. Leave for Stoke or play for the reserves all season. If true, I honestly don't blame him for staying. He is way to good to go to Stoke, and be given that choice on deadline day is not fair. There had been rumors earlier about Blackburn being interested, so why wasn't a deal made with them? Also, if Rafa wanted to sell him, then why did he not play him in the last two games of last season? He had played wonderfull games against Fulham and Birmingham (35. and 36. game of the season) and for the last two games, fourth place was already secured. Why didn't he give Pennant the opportunity to shine in those two games, so that more middle-table clubs would show interest in him over the summer?

IMO Pennant is not to blame in his current situation.

I feel he would be better concentrating on his football and getting into the team.

And I don't think Pennant will lose any concentration on his football because he says 4 words to an Everton fan during his warm up.

      Ah bless.

Maybe they could go out and spend their money?

I'm well aware that Pennant has not been complaining about not playing - that is exactly because he is the kind of player (IMO) to whom trophies and accolades are less meaningful than a big wedge in the bank, a tasty woman on the arm, and a cracking night out showing off the bling.

      Just my opinion though.

Yeah we should really feel sorry for football players, so so sorry.

No thats not what Im saying, Im just saying that players try to get the best deals for themselves. Like everybody does, when having a job, asking for pay rise, changing job for better wages. They should not be blamed for that.

The impression Pennant leaves on people is of course a personal thing. But if trophies and accolades means much to a player, he surely wouldnt go to Stoke right? And to me he doesnt seem like a money collector like le Tallec for example. He was always on loan an just picked up his wages. Never close to getting into the team. Its not as if Pennant cant do a job for us.

And I dont get, if he was so keen on the money, why did he change to Birmingham from Arsenal?

And to those saying he is in the media for the wrong reasons. Since he came 3 years ago, when has he been in the media for the wrong reasons since then?

And about money collectors. Its not as if players do nothing just because they are on the bench each game. They are at two training sessions each day. And any guy who has ever played football knows that competitive matches are 10 times more fun than training, so it seems a bad deal to do all the training and not get the games. Few would do that if they could get each game and a little wage cut at a middle-table club, which I am sure Pennant could.
The only other reason I see to do that, is if you desperately want to play for the team you are at, and I think thats the case with Pennant.

But as with JD, thats just my opinion/impression.

See this is what I can't stand!!
These intrests could be associated with 90% of prem footballers but its funny that when it comes to Jermain you suggest he prefers these things insted of trophies.. Theres nothing to suggest thats his way of thinking at all.. Bitter working class assumptions!!
Its almost like we should shoot them down when they enjoy there spoils, drive there fast cars and entertain there beautiful women.. Why?. Nothing more than jealousy.
Like they should tip toe around our working class feelings? Bullox!! People forget that their ex poor people who have just come into money. How many of us when young would act the same or have family members who'd be more obnoxious??

I like real people, he seems one of them to me. I liked the Bellamys, and the Cisses. Some people are slightly arrogant and occasionally show off, some people are quite abrupt. I don't expect these characteristics to suddenly disappear because they've a skill in football and have money..

This is just an  excuse for people who don't like Pennant to remain jealous and stick a boot in..
A few words to a bitter fan? A bitter fan?!!!?

It seems Jermaine has a fan club after all :D

If he silenced the bitters with this comment then I take my hat off to the lad.  Definitely not the worst player in our squad and I bet he feels privileged to sit on the bench of the club he supported as a boy ;) :D

Hardly his fault that he earns big bucks not doing much.

To be fair to Jermaine Pennant, he HAD been in trouble before coming to liverpool, having to wear a tag an all.
But since joining us he's been a good boy :D
Everyone has valid points here but i think it is true that jealousy creeps in when people see footballers lifestyles. You can't expect people not to enjoy their fortune 100% privately, especially with paparazzis creeping around them 24/7
Btw i rate JP very highly and i think he should get more of a chance on the pitch as when he does he doesn't seem to do much wrong

Lets face it and I will say it again, Pennant should not even be at our club.

I've seen him out and about round Allerton and Lark Lane and to be honest, I just think he's an overpaid pr**k!

I think some people may have understood me here
The only words that JP said was ' Im rich, I'm rich'
He didn't say he was rich for doing F**k all or anything like that. I said that i would get called all sorts of names for doing what i love (not sitting down - playing football)
Glad we cleared that up :)
