Shows there's still talent in the lower leagues if you're prepared to look at that market.
Edwards has shown he will do that. Robbo and Gini were both bought from Championship sides. That worked out okay, I guess ;)

Both were bought in the summer, following the season their clubs had been relegated. It's not quite the same as dipping into the lower leagues in the way Palace have done with those mentioned.

Someone like Carvalho is more an example of us going down the leagues.

      Yep absolutely.

Don't think we've done enough business in that department. South America another area where we do very little.

Not saying every signing needs to be from those places obviously but I think we've got enough money to be able to take a gamble or two from those markets.

Nah we haven't but I think a lot of that comes down to modern day football snobbery. A signing from the lower leagues is almost sneered at nowadays, especially for a club of our size. Why are we buying somebody from, for example, Watford and not from Madrid or Milan or Munich.

South America is one I'm baffled as to why we've never really tried to explore. I know when we have bought youngsters from there, we've had issues with work permits with the likes of Leto so maybe that's why. Maybe it's easier/quicker for them to get citizenship in Spain and Italy so they move there instead.

Have we got the proper scouts there or is our idea a general concensus, we surley must have looked into this

If our scouting was on point or close to, our academy should be full of players like Doak/Bajcetic.....these kind of players that can quickly become first team peripherical players before either being integrated fully in the full squad or being moved on for a hefty profit.

I don't think it's realistic to expect the academy to be full of players that can move on to become 1st team players or be sold for a big profit. It's impossible to predict if a 11 to 14 year old will develop into a top quality adult player, there are to many uncertainties. Obviously the academy and our scouting system can improve but I think they have produced a reasonable amount of good players in the last 5 years.

Not so much from around the country but globally. Players like Koumas Clark McConnell and Danns have done well for themselves but when you compare them to other 18-19 year olds globally, I don’t see them as being on the same level. I’m talking your Garnacho’s, Bobb’s, Enciso’s, Zaire Emery’s Scalvini’s Guler’s etc.

You mean players such as Quansah, Bradley, Elliott, Bajcetic, Doak, etc.? Sure, we should get us some of those...  ;)

Some of them aren’t “foreign” enough - not enough glamour
