Looking forward to this competition, always has great future stars playing. I remember Javi playing in this competition in 2003 when he was an unknown player from River who never made an senior appearance for the club but stole the show.

Also don't forget Huth from the reserves is playing in this competition so good luck to him as well.

Here are some players to watch over the competition which were listed on talkaloadofbull.com

      Quote
      NicolĂĄs MartĂnez - Olimpia (PAR)

A revelation in his first season with Olimpia, and now in his second, MartĂnez is proving to be a key player for them. An attacking midfielder who can pick out a pass, he will have a lot of responsibilty on his shoulders as he tries to link the play at the front.

      Quote
Eduardo Salvio - Lanus (ARG) - attacker

Salvio only made his professional debut during the last Argentine Apertura championship but he did so in some style: he turned out to be a gem on the far right of the attack. He's a superb dribbler - complete with heel-flicks - and has pace. Moreover, he plays without nerves and thus can find the back of the net. He's been linked with AC Milan, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Arsenal. Diego Maradona, meanwhile, calls him one of Argentina's "great hopes."

      Quote
Mauricio Arroyo - Real Cartagena (COL) - 18 years old

Arroyo is a key player for the Colombian starting line-up and also the reason that Real Cartagena achieved promotion to the First Division in their domestic league. His personality has earned him the captain’s armband of his country and has recently made his debut for the senior squad in a friendly against Nigeria in November of last year.

      Quote
Dentinho (Corinthians) – 19 years old

A very pacey, opportunistic target striker with great technique, Dentinho (pic) was one of the revelations in Brazil’s Serie B in 2008 with Corinthians. He has already attracted the interest of Real Madrid and he will be one of the more experienced players for the Seleção in this tournament. And along with Douglas Costa, they are expected to be the two big stars of the competition.

      Quote
Reimond Manco - PSV Eindhoven (Holland) - 18 years old

Named as the best player of the Under-17 tournament back in 2007, Manco arrives in Venezuela as one of the brightest hopes for his country. The PSV player will no doubt be hoping to follow in the footsteps of countryman Jefferson FarfĂĄn and he has plenty of similar attributes. The youngster can play behind the front men or as a striker himself, and his pace and skill are sure to torment plenty of defenders over the next few weeks.

      Quote
Santiago GarcĂa - Nacional (URU) - 18 years old - Forward
One of the most promising forwards in Uruguayan football. Known as el Morro, GarcĂa is a pacey striker with a great eye for goal and good technical skills on the ball. He made his debut at the end of July in the final of the pre-Libertadores league and he scored the goal that won the title for Nacional. There is already a lot of interest in his services from overseas.

Insula is playing for Argentina, there is no Argentina A, the A & B's are the groups.
Huth is in the Paraguay squad.

Group A: Argentina the team to beat
With six world titles to their name, Argentina always figure large among the favourites for this tournament. Although Franco Di Santo of Chelsea and Pablo Piatti of Almeria will be absent, coach Sergio Batista can count on Liverpool midfielder Emiliano Insua and a squad packed with players from the Argentinian top flight. "I'm not lying when I say we're here to win the championship, but the priority is qualifying for the World Cup," said Velez Sarsfield forward Jonathan Cristaldo.

Midfielder? Is he being played as a winger then?

      Ecuador 2 vs Peru 1

A few players out there are quite good, Reimond Manco who was highlighted from talkaloadofbull.com is quite the player and looked very good. Rojas for Ecuador who scored both goals very good finisher.

      Now time for Insua :)

      Edit: Insua is the skipper!

Edit 2: Argentina down 1-0 two minutes in  :f_tongueincheek:

Edit 3:  Savio scores to make it 1-1

      1-1 FT

Insua had a slow game and should of pushed up more in attack because only two times we really went for it he missed a chance to win it late in the game playing a good 1-2 with the striker and another time he pushed he sent in a quality cross. Overall would of expected more from a player with Premiership experience under your belt.

As far as the game goes it was very boring, Argentina would get the ball outside the box and never break through the defenders but rather pass the ball around and Venezuela though had many chances with the space left open by the defenders were too poor to actually do anything with the ball.

As far as players goes none of the Venezuelan really impressed me with their individual play. Argentina another played I listed Savio was quite the play, he was the only player that beat their man and he did it over and over again. Also he got the goal as well. Suppose to be linked with many clubs like AC Milan, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and CSKA Moscow

Ronald Huth played pretty good in a 1-1 draw with Brazil tonight. It is funny watching him cause you would know if someone said "there is one player on the pitch who plays in England" you would of picked Huth up right away. He was simply out muscling every player out there though he got a yellow in the process with one of the Brazilian players made him look silly. Overall he was good and made one goal saving tackle and another time he covered 15 yards took the ball right off the striker who look like he was going in alone and made a great pass which in the end lead to the goal. I always liked the look of him when he played with the reserves last season and thought he was better than San Jose who seems to be higher in the pecking order based on being on the bench in a few games. Still needs to work on gap control but he looks a decent player but hard to say he will crack the Liverpool senior team with the depth we have at the CB position.

As far as stand out players Walter who scored a 35 yard screamer looked quite strong and very good holding the ball up. Dentinho who was one of the highly touted players had a very poor showing and Diego Costa who many were raving about started off well simply beating every player but once it got tighter he seem to shy away a little bit. Lodeiro the Uruguayan looked very good in his game showing some great skill and scored 2 goals.

Douglas Costa, actually. Really is a quality player. Great skills with the ball. But needs to get a little more mature. Another year in GrĂȘmio will make good for him (and for GrĂȘmio).

The boys were not playing the last two days so I really watch much of the games but what I did see the all 90 minutes of Brazil vs Bolivia which was a 2-1. Brazil were poor when it came to finishing and could of won the game 20-1 but simply lacked composer.

      Stands after two rounds played.

       Ecuador    2    1    1    0    2    1    +1    4
       Colombia    1    1    0    0    1    0    +1    3
       Venezuela 2    0    2    0    1    1    0    2
       Argentina    1    0    1    0    1    1    0    1
       Peru    2    0    0    2    1    3    -2    0

       Uruguay    2    2    0    0    5    2    +3    6
       Brazil    2    1    1    0    2    2    +1    4
       Paraguay    1    0    1    0    1    1    0    1
       Bolivia    2    0    0    2    1    4    -3    0
       Chile    1    0    0    1    2    3    -1    0

How it works is that the top 3 teams from each group make it to the final round. In the final round you play the nations you didn't face in the group. Whoever finishes 1st in the final group then are winners and more important the top 4 get a spot in the U-20 World Cup.

Tomorrow Insua will be in action vs Peru which should be a easy 3 points cause from what I have seen Peru are by far the worst side.

Emiliano Insua helped Argentina to a 2-1 victory over Peru in the South America U20 Championships on Friday night.

The left-back played 90 minutes as goals from Eduardo Salvio and Jonathan Cristaldo took Argentina to second in Group A.

Fellow reserve Ronaldo Huth is also at the tournament in Venezuela and he will line up for Paraguay against Uruguay on Saturday night

Insua played decent last night, unlucky not to score but the defender cleared his shot off the line. It seems that Rafa has gotten to him cause when he first came to the club he was always bombing ahead and attacking. Now he seems much more about staying back and only making the overlapping run a few times. Shame cause when he does go forward he causes trouble.

      Here are some more highlights

Well Huth was in action today in a 5-1 win over Bolivia which was a very important result for his side cause they need to be top three in the group to get to the final round. As far as his play goes he did decent job but really wasn't much there for him to defend as his side was far superior in this game. He had a cracking 25 yard blast which the keeper made a great save.

Right now as it stands both Insua and Huth sides will need to get a result in the final round of games to get through. The group standings are

      Quote
      Group A
Team    Pld    W    D    L    GF    GA    GD    Pts

      Venezuela    3    1    2    0    4    2    +2    5
      Argentina    3    1    2    0    5    4    +1    5
      Colombia    3    1    2    0    3    2    +1    5
      Ecuador    3    1    2    0    2    1    +1    5
      Peru            4    0    0    4    3    8    -5    0

      Group B
Team    Pld    W    D    L    GF    GA    GD    Pts

      Uruguay    3    3    0    0    9    4    +5    9
      Brazil            3    2    1    0    5    2    +3    7

      Paraguay    3    1    1    1    8    6    +2    4
      Chile            3    1    0    1    4    5    +1    3
      Bolivia    4    0    0    4    2    11    -9    0

Group A is wide open, every nation has beaten Peru and then drawn with each other thus far. Tomorrow Argentina will play Ecuador and Colombia will play hosts Venezuela. Really there is a bunch of things that can happy but overall group A has been quite poor overall in quality.

Group B already has the best side thus far Uruguay and Brazil already into the final round so on Wednesday the big game will be Chile vs Paraguay to see who gets the final spot. As far as form goes I think thus far Paraguay have been more impressive but it could go either way.
