Firstly have to have my two cents worth with the Fabregas debate. Whoever thinks Xabi is inferior to that cheating, moaning, swine is deluded. If he had a side with more stars he'd fall away into the pack. He can't even hit a pass from 10 yards away.

      Secondly, Xabi will stay!

Liverpool FC's Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez
The 27-year-old’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks with Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid all linked with a move for the Spaniard.

Alonso, who is fit to return to the squad for tomorrow’s clash at West Brom, has enjoyed an impressive campaign at the heart of Liverpool’s midfield.

And the Reds boss has ruled out sacrificing him to fund any squad rebuilding.

“Xabi has been doing really well this season,” Benitez said.

“He’s a key player for us and with him being fit again it will give us a different option in midfield.

“Xabi has been talking about how he wants to stay here and we certainly want to keep him so I don’t think there will be any problems.”

Going to risk the wrath of the boss by unlocking this topic.

If he signs a new deal fair enough, but Rafa saying 'I don't think' isn't completely closing the topic for me.  You never know what kind of deal with the devil (owners) Rafa will have to sort this summer.

If we have to resort to sell our player of the season to fund any improvement and progress for next season then there is something horribly wrong.

I know we have especially under Rafa.

But never at the expense of the player of the season, that has expressed on numerous occassion he wants to stay.

No, Xabi stayed in Liverpool during the Inter Milan game due to the birth of his son.
Personally, I feel they should be there for their missus.

Dont think that was a fall out between them.

Xabi was having his first child, the end outcome was we knoced Inter out anyway.

that's the difference between rafa and alonso, when we were at the club championship's rafa lost his father and decided to stay with the team, alonso stayed at home.

what tha gaffa wanted was committment from alonso and never got it.

Well, maybe but have to understand it was Xabi's first child. Even Jamie Carragher said he regret the time he wasn't there for the birth of his son.

also the fact the Alonso was in poor form around the time. i don't think Rafa tried to sell him solely because he missed the Inter game.

Anyhow he was right to try and sell him. It gave Xabi the kick up the arse he needed!!

no need to sell him, barry is coming in on the cheap, plus alonso's performance this season has been outstanding, dont need to sell him to raise funds

I remember I heard last night before the WBA game but might be a little irrelevant to this thread.. Liverpool have the perfect 3 men midfield.

First, we have the ability of Javier Mascherano to stop and break off attacks and can usually pick out a short pass and of course, his long passes aren't as good as Xabi or Stevie.

Secondly, we have the master playmaker, Xabi Alonso, who has that long range passing ability and fantastic wide vision to look out for his teammates(and the goalkeeper of his line). He also keeps his composure and is calm under pressure.

Lastly, we have the engine, our captain Steven Gerrard. He has the ability to score goals from outside or inside the box. Can make a killer pass for his teammates. Not forgetting, he's also able to do Xabi's and Masch's jobs.

I never want to see that Holy Trinity broken up :(

Agree with you Ad they are as good a trio as anywhere in Europe. Its the perfect blend the destroyer, the creator and the goalscorer. I think ye can guess who is who.

I heard that too. It was the words of Steve McMahon (ESPN) wasn't it? Back to the point...I think Xabi will stay no matter what happens.Even if Barry comes he can play as LB and a LM too ...he is a good squad player and we need these type of players in the squad could free up bench space.

It's posted on the BBC this morning that if Perez takes control at Real, he's lining up a ÂŁ21m bid for Xabi !
Do you think that figure would activate Rafa's sell button?
Remember everything is for sale at a price?
      Your thoughts please..........
