I would say Ferguson is in total panic now,his time is up and he will have to play 2nd fiddle to RAFA.I cannot see them paying 62 million for Ribery as they are already reportedly on the bones of their ar*e

£62 million not bad must mean he is going to be a bit better than Berbatov.

      Ooo.

      A rejection!

Champions keen to quell reports of world record bid

Manchester United have distanced themselves from a reported world record bid for Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery.

The Guardian reported on Tuesday morning that United were putting together a £62.5million package in a bid to tempt Bayern into a sale.

Ribery is expected to quit the Allianz Arena following what has been a disappointing season for the Bavarian giants, with Jürgen Klinsmann dismissed as a result of their failures both domestically and in Europe.

It was initially thought Ribery's most likely destination would be Spain or Italy but United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is a known admirer of the talented Frenchman.

It would appear though that claims of a pending bid, on the proviso Cristiano Ronaldo quits Old Trafford in the summer, are someway wide of the mark.

The club have deemed the rumours not worthy of comment and with Ronaldo reportedly having said his 'Real Madrid dream was dead' last weekend, a move for Ribery looks increasing unlikely.

      Hmm...

Overpriced, overpriced and real overpriced. I reckon he's good, but to pay 62.5 million for someone who plays in the Bundesliga? Absolutely unbelievable. Although he's good, I don't see why so many people rate him that highly. And for me, no club should pay more than 40 million for a player. Cause seriously, just for one player? You must be kidding me, I can build a team with that. And its a huge difference from what just one player makes.

Either you are priced in a reasonable range, or you are priceless. Just like what is Gerrard is to our club. Priceless. 62.5 million is just a stupid sum of amount to pay for one player, and wouldn't it break the world record by more than 15 million? Like I said, either you are reasonably priced, or you are priceless.

They also rejected the Berbatov bid at first.

Ronaldo's going. Ribery is pretty good, but not really the same.

      Ribery isn't even all that great tbh. Reasons why;

He in a weak league atm
He can't finish a game because he runs himself out
He's small and not that powerful
He's finishing can be very hot and cold

      I don't think that he worth 30mill nevermind 64

      My 2 cents....

Ronaldo deal was done last summer, utd got an extra season to keep face. Ribery is the replacement being linked for crazy money and they can have him he's over rated

where did you get that amount from?

I think he just doubled the supposed offer for Ribery to take the piss. After all, these figures just seem to be plucked out of thin air.

If there is any truth to these rumours then it shows how completely insane Ferguson is going right now.

To even consider spending so much money on one player is absurd, he will never be able to repay that kind of transfer fee, no matter how many trophies he helps the club to win. And good as Ribery may be, I can't see him making such a huge impact as that, especially for a player who has never been tested in the Premier League.

I've moaned about Rafa not having enough cash in the transfer market, but this kind of spending is not at all what I'm talking about. To have the extra couple of million to sign the right player at the right moment - yes.

And to think not that long ago Fergie was whinging about how Rafa had supposedly spent more than he had over the years. ::)
