Dead Poet's Society on Amazon Prime. One of Robin Williams' finest and a cast of fine young actors led by Ethan Hawke. Peter Weir is one of the most underrated masters of cinema.

Yeah, I liked that one even if it completely misrepresents the education system, especially private education. Also the first time I saw Robert Sean Leonard, a sensitive and very likeable presence - later familiar to me as Wilson in House.

He's marvellous as Neil. As you say, sensitive and very likeable.

Great isn't it. And a lovely score by Maurice Jarre too!

The BAFTA nominations are a f**king joke. No Time To Die getting a cinematography nod whilst West Side Story gets shut out altogether is dire!

And don't get me started on 11 nominations for Dune.  :D

Finally got around to The Suicide Squad and meh. Unnecessarily choppy editing, three music videos pretending to be part of the movie with horrible pacing throughout.

A couple of laughs, a couple of decent Harley Quinn moments and about twenty minutes too long.

If you're taking about that tick tick boom musical I found it excruciating including Garfield's performance had to turn it off after a half hour.

Most Netflix produced movies are garbage tbh.

I love Garfield but I agree I had to turn it off about 20 minutes in as I couldn’t take anymore… it was the equivalent of being stuck in a lift with the most annoying person you know.

Had a cinema double last night as I left me wife and sister into  town to see Alan Carr and couldn't be bothered driving home and back again.

      Quite the combo as well

House of Gucci was first up and the tone of this one is all over the place. One minute comedy, the next a biopic of a family murder.

And some of those accents. My word. Thought Adam Driver came out of it ok but Jared Leto was the epitomy of caricature.

      Then onto Jackass Forever.

Absolutely hilarious and everything you expect it to be. If you're not a fan this won't change but I laughed for an hour and a half.

Gonna go see Jackass next week hopefully, will be a blast to my childhood, going around Tesco car park as a kid in trolleys rolling down hills and into walls to try and be Johnny Knoxville.

      O Captain My Captain

One of my all time favourite movies

Following on from that, I watched a film last night that I had been meaning to do so for a while (another from Peter Weir). Fearless starring Jeff Bridges as a survivor of an airplane crash.

Quite simply one of the most astounding films I have ever watched. I saw someone write that it was transcendent - it is indeed. A truly special experience and confident enough in saying that it's one of the greatest I've ever seen.

Watched No Time to Die again last night.

Enjoyed it first time round but second time round, it a) has a lot of plot holes and non logical moments and b) (and I think this is important for any Bond movie), it doesn’t have that watchability factor that the best ones have where you can watch them multiple times and enjoy it.

I remember the reviews were raving about it, but on a second watch I thought it was pretty sh*t and nowhere near the level of Skyfall or Craigs best Bond which is Casino Royale imo.

I have very little desire to go back and watch it. I quite enjoyed it when watching it first time but on reflection I'm really quite critical of it. The film dragged and there was one too many fight scenes for me. And I didn't think much of the music either.* The villain? Completely forgot about him to be honest. The storyline? I couldn't have cared less about the relationship between Bond and Madeleine as there was next to no emotion/connection between them.

It's a real shame that Danny Boyle couldn't have directed it as originally planned. I'm certain we would have got something a lot more energetic, concise and memorable.

*I'm getting a bit tired of Zimmer's synth led, mood driven sustained note music too. In fairness to Zimmer, Nolan's films are just perfect for him and I think the work both did on Dunkirk was astounding but having seen No Time To Die and Dune recently I thought very little of the scores and thought they were just intrusive in all honesty. Let's get back to John Williams type orchestral, melodic extravagance!

      SPOILER ALERT 🚨

The villain, my god. I don’t even understand what his motivation was, he got what he wanted as far as I can see (i.e revenge for his family’s death by taking out all of Spectre), so what’s the purpose beyond that and him ending up on that island base where Bond ends up? There’s next to no chemistry/suspense between Bond and (I literally can’t even remember the villains name, Rami Maleks character) and I find the scenes they have together quite dull.

The thing with Madeline, like you say - no interest and how they try make out she had the same emotional connection to Bond as Vesper did is beyond me. Vesper (Eva Green) was incredible in Casino Royale imo and Madeline gets nowhere close to that. Maybe it’s her character being poorly written but she seemed more of a ‘damsel in distress’ type character than someone of real substance.

There plenty of other Bond movies I’d flip on to before No Time to Die in the future (even watched Tomorrow Never Dies the other night with Pierce Brosnan and even that is a better Bond movie imo).

Incredibly average on a second watch.

Got to see 'Parasite' eventually last week.
Was very good, started slowly but picked up the pace and had a couple of unexpected turns.
Still think 'Joker' should've got the Oscar for Best Film ahead of it, but it is a decent watch.

Spotlight - I'd heard great things said about it since it was released a few years ago but never got round to watching it until last night. A phenomenal film.
