Aquilani wouldn't play even if he wasn't injured, due to the fact he hasn't even passed his medical yet.

Add to that, Rafa wouldn't let him play in a game like this until he reached optimum fitness - I don't think we'll see him play for a good couple of weeks.

Can't wait to go to this game, I hope Torres really performs though to show how much he has improved.

Can't go to game - gutted. Strongest team possible to start first half.
      Torres hat-trick.
Silva & Villa to sign contracts on pitch at half time !

Strong line-up hopefully to bring the pre-season to a positive end. Most fit stars should feature with an idea of starting 11 for next week.
Me and the missus coming tomorrow from Scotland, her first ever visit and my first for several years. Any suggestions on where I can park? Grab a pint etc...
LowCen Block KN Row 21 should be a good view....

Was going to be going to this game in the box (would of prefered the stand, but I wasn't going to complain!) but we needed one more person to agree, they took to long and the box was gone.  :f_steam:

But anyway, this game should be a real test, and should give us a decent idea of if we are ready for Spurs. Would like to see a strong team, with a few youngsters in there to.

So many people starting pre-match topics and not doing it right.

It used to be that when you opened a pre-match thread, you got all the information about that match: Date and kick-off time.

      When is this match again?

I would expect a stroing line up one that would indicate what we will see next week at White Heart Lane. I am certain Aquilani will not be involved and we will see Lucas and Masch in the middle. I really want Stevie and Torres to show some sharpness out there at least for a half and instill some confidence in us fans that they will be up for it come next Sunday.

Nevermind this new chap, I guess we will have a centre half pairing of Carragher and Kelly eh? That's going to be smart - two local lads in the center.

I think with Johnson on the right and Insua on the left its quite an unusual back four liverpool aint it?

Really looking forward to this match, seems ages since the last game at Anfield.

I also am expecting Rafa to put out the team that will start against Tottenham, and maybe when we've got the game won, take off the likes of Torres, Gerrard etc to keep them for the following week.

It will be great to be at Anfield for a pre-season game, my first one, and in the Kop as well.

I hope Nando is as motivated for this one as he was when we played them in the Champions League as there was no stopping him that night.

My forecast is obviously a REDS win by 3 goals to 0.

Nemeth should be on that bench instead of Ngog. Honestly Voronin would do a better job than Ngog. One of the worst buys of all time.

Agreed. Ngog has got the built but falls easily and he's got the height and physique but not using it to full effect, not to mention slow on the ball. Rafa must have seen all these flaws. Voronin is definitely a much better choice, at least he knows how to harass defenders.

Bumper crowd at the pit last night 20,000 , I see this as a true reflection of the support in this city , probable sell out today proves it is about 1 blue to every 3 reds , the same happened last pre season when we played on the Friday and they played the next day and we still doubled there crowd ,this peoples club thing still pisses me off big time , heard recenly a Market trader bought the rights to use ( the peoples club) on merchandice and went to the club to try and do a deal only for the club to say they were dropping it .

Liverpool FC’s Fernando Torres looking forward to Atletico Madrid reunion

FERNANDO TORRES first set foot in the Vicente Calderon as a nine-year-old.

Alongside his family, he visited Atletico Madrid’s trophy room, and began a lifelong love affair with his home-town club.

Torres has grown up loving football, but it was his grandfather Eulalio who nurtured his adoration for Atletico, never tiring of telling him just what it meant to be a part of the club. With that kind of influence, it was hard to imagine Torres ending up anywhere but Atletico, and he signed for them in 1995.

After signing his first professional contract in 1999, injury held Torres back before finally making his senior Atletico debut in May 2001 at 17.

A decade after that first visit to the Calderon, the young Torres had finally made it onto the pitch.

But this was a very different Atletico Madrid to the one Eulalio had grown up with. Relegated to the Segunda Division for the first time since the 1930s in 2000, Atletico were at their lowest ever ebb. Torres would go on to score his first senior goal the following week, the winner at Albacete.

But it would be a bittersweet occasion, as it wasn’t enough to see Atletico promoted, as goal average denied them. The following season though, Torres scored six goals as Atletico won the Segunda Division and returned to the top flight, where he finally began to establish himself as an Atletico Madrid hero.

If there is anything that devoted Torres to his fans more than his goals, it was his attitude.

In his own words, he recognised that it was not long ago that he himself had been just a fan, hanging around outside the training ground trying to get autographs from his idols. It was no real surprise then that he was made captain of the club aged just 19.

His first senior call up to the Spain squad came in 2003, and Torres ended the 2003-04 season with 19 goals. But after the highs, it was to be a disappointing season, first as Atletico failed to qualify for the UEFA Cup after losing to Villarreal in the Intertoto Cup Final, then for Spain as they crashed out of Euro 2004 at the group stage.

He suffered further heartbreak for Spain at the 2006 World Cup, when despite scoring three goals in the group stage, Spain were eliminated by France in the second round.

But the time finally came for Torres to leave his boyhood club. Atletico once again missed out on Europe, and when Liverpool came calling, all accepted it was the right move for him. It is a symbol of just how adored Torres was by Atletico that after deciding to leave for Anfield, he called a press conference to simply thank the club and the fans and to wish them goodbye.

The Atletico fans did not begrudge him his move, and accepted that their hero was finally going to a club whose stature matched his talents and could fulfil his ambitions the way Atletico never could.

The move rejuvenated Torres as he fulfilled one ambition and became the hero of a nation, as he scored the winning goal in the final of Euro 2008 against Germany, to deliver Spain’s first international trophy at senior level since 1964.

Today’s game is all about Torres.

Injury robbed him of the two meetings between Liverpool and Atletico in last season’s Champions League, both games finishing 1-1. While it is not the return to the Calderon he dreamed of, it will at least be a chance for him to be reunited with the club and the fans that are in his blood
