      Blackberry Facebook App
      Dec 25, 2009 11:51:48 pm
      Can't get it to work.

Downloaded it and downloads fine. The logging on is what's the problem.

Every time I try to log on it says:

'Could not connect because a data service is not available'.

I've tried getting rid of the app and downloading it again several times. Trying different methods of downloading. Switched the phone on and off etc but still the same message.

Searched on the internet and it seems to be a very common problem - however I haven't been able to find an exact solution.

Is anybody able to help me out please?

Edit: I'm still able to access Facebook through the normal browser though. So it's not the end of the world if not.

      Ha!

      Actually, doesn't matter too much.

Like I said, I can access through the browser and that's perfectly fine. Plus, I can click on something called 'touch site' and that's pretty cool.

Just signed up for the £5 a month unlimited data plan.

      Complete new experience now.

Actually unbelievable difference - and well worth it.

I'm made up with what I'm able to do at my fingertips now, I didn't realise what a fantastic piece of equipment this is until now!!

      Indeed.

Can't believe I can now do things like talk on MSN/to other BlackBerry users on PIN wherever/whenever.

So glad I took the decision to do it!

Can anybody tell me, what is a data plan?

What is the use of it, what 10Mbps and what not.

What is it basically for. I thought as long as you have WiFi, you basically have internet access off your phone?

Before I had a data plan I could only access the internet when there was WiFi available.

Now I can access it any time - whether it be though WiFi or through the phone network internet.

Also before I couldn't send picture messages or use applications such as Facebook. With the data plan now I can.

£5 comes out of my credit balance every month and I get unlimited access.

So, basically without data plan you still get to use the internet, but only if somewhere near has an internet connection or whatever.

But with a data plan you can access the internet anywhere and everywhere, am I right? Even at places which doesn't have a WiFi connection, like in the buses, or even in public toilets etc.

      Whats the Mbps for anyway?

      That's right mate yeah.

I have no idea what Mbps means though.

Might be something to do with usage - some networks only allow a certain amount of browsing etc before you start to get extra charges.

Stands for MegaBytes Per Second (how much data you can send/receive per second)

& i had the problem with facebook for BB, rang Vodafone and they said i had to pay an extra flim a month for the "Blackberry Access Application" but after 3 weeks the Facebook app f**ked my phone up, not allowing me to type in numbers the normal way.

Cant fault Blackberrys though, magnificent piece of kit ;D

Mobile internet uses your phones signal, and the data plan allows for Blackberry applications such as facebook to access internet without using your phones internet browser. Wi-fi is irrelevant to an extent unless you go into the Blackberry Browser options and change the way you access internet from Mobile Network to Wi-Fi connection.
